Ah…expectations

Give rise to disappointments

Acceptance is key

Haiku Wednesday is always a joy to participate in. This week’s theme was ANTICIPATION. I equate anticipation with expectations. When I EXPECT something, I am bound to get hurt, or upset that things don’t quite go the way I had envisioned. In my spiritual quest I have found to live in the reality of the here and now. To accept people and situations for whom and they are, not what I want them to be. It truly is freeing.

Ever present threat

Soul’s awakening...

divine intervention lifts

fog from hazy mind

seeking vision’s clarity

to lies’ deception

breaking free from captive’s chains

subconscious thoughts, dreams.

Secret images
of a long forgotten past
waiting for escape

when the veil's removed.
Open, exposed by day's light,
demons forced to flee.

Reacting to pain
is best buffered by one's faith.
"Please, Lord...give me strength!"

Gnarled hands fondle air.

Mind slips to another place.

Hearts break...but still love.

I am fortunate that my parents, in their 80's, have not succumbed to dementia. However, I work with many, many patients who have. I also have friends experiencing the same within their own families. This haiku is in honor of them.
