In My Dreams: A Flash Friday 55 Offering

I developed
a secret “super power”…
an ability to hover,
in my dreams,
as I began creating.

Exhilarating,
yet remaining
earthbound

As artistic endeavors unfolded,
I soared,
slightly higher,
still tethered by rules,
restrictions,
and those silly little limitations
labeled "Laws" of Gravity.

Presently exploring,
Risk taking,
fearlessly,
(rules be damned!)
learning to fly!

Okay, so I'm rusty. I haven't written in awhile but thought I'd surprise G-Man with a Friday 55.

Tuesday's Tale: Legacy

(file from Google Images-layoutsparks.com)

Blackbird perched upon her branch
(a for-bearer of pending doom)
patiently waiting for his chance
as burgeoning buds eventually bloom

Flowers give way to emerald leaves
while blackbird nests, keeping watch
other birds surf gentle breezes
he bides his time sipping Scotch

Blackbird stirs as time draws near
'twixt her foliage he lustily recites
poems of love, chivalry into her ear
words...wound tight, delights, excites

Blackbird left in stealth of night
stealing from her bountiful tree
sweet tender fruit, not fully ripe,
though she’d gladly given for free

Blackbird drops pilfered pit
over seedy part of town
‘tween asphalt sheets & butts well thrown,
nourished by rain of spilt Royal Crown

Weeping golden tears upon the ground
she empties self, mourning loss
of love imagined, so pure, profound
comforting self with layers of winter moss

Meanwhile ‘cross city-scape
her daughter burrows deep
taking root as night sky drapes
wintry blanket under which she sleeps

Thus story begins anew
when unto chaos she emerges
(against all odds it survived), and grew
her marrow with pavement merges

Generations came, decades spent
(mom's) memories coursing through veins
this time, she thought, will be diff’rent
as blackbird settles in, taking reign

A Haiku and Miscellaneous Musings

(Image courtesy of Google Images)

Morning's grace
upon winds of change
heron glides

Daytime storms
shelter found in faith
heron rests

Mercy reigns
refining, cleansing
heron soars

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Early this morning, as I was leaving the house, our occasional visitor, a great blue heron, was gliding in the air above a nearby pond. Whenever I see him/her I am always reminded of God's majesty. Today was also host to some pretty stormy weather. These events were on my mind as I attempted to experiment with a "3-5-3" contemporary haiku format. Needs some work, although I am finding this a wonderful new writing challenge.
Guess what?!
My business cards came in. It's official. I am now a bona fide "Writer/Poet/Artist"
It must be true...my business card says so!
My hope is to work on an inventory this winter and be able to open up an Etsy shop by spring. I've already had a couple of clients interested in some commission work. I so appreciate the validation because I have the tendency of being my own worst critic.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm taking another blog break over Thanksgiving week. Be on the lookout for a really cool give-away upon my return. I promise...no crazy rules or jumping through hoops. A simple, straight forward give-away. It will make a wonderful gift for someone you love or for yourself. Really. Just you wait...you'll be glad you did!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am penning this late at night and it is past my bedtime. I require much slumber because, as you all well know, my dreams can be exhausting! Good night!
Saturday Census: A Study in Black
Ms. Jenny has played a trick on us...but unbeknownst to her, it's a treat for me! Micro-fiction (25 words) using a photo prompt! Right up my alley! Then I saw the photo. Ooooh, she's a tricky one, that Ms. Jenny.
trapped
struggling against
bondage of self
held captive
Just Write: Tantrum
Temper builds
deep within
unknown place
breaking chains
releasing
with rage
resentment
uncontrolled fury
“where in the hell
did that come from?”
too late to
reign control
now cleaning
sweeping
sanitizing
mess from
aftermath
of petulant storm
Flash Friday 55: August 19, 2011
my “studio/office” space
is where I’m spending day….
becoming most favored place
where phrases, fabric play
Shall I write of words with lady
about a wedding ring
missing after someone shady,
came to help her clean
Designing, I shall do instead
brainstorming ways to start
transforming ideas within my head
into passable works of art
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Friday came upon me too fast! This is my attempt to please the G-Man, our most gracious host. Now I really must go seize this day since I've spent way too much time on the computer already.

Monday Morning Photo Prompt: The Road Less Traveled

The road less traveled...
often trashed
by those refusing,
to even to consider,
taking that 1st step
upon the path
of one's own
spiritual journey

Sunflower Soul

sunflower soul
waxing weary
of false façade,
this make-believe mirth,
while woes are wending,
sorrow sweeping,
vainly through veins…

yes, sunflower souls
indeed have veins
as well as dreams,
desires rooted deeply
within prairie prayers
waiting, wanting, wishing
for courage to be she

sunflower soul swaying
towards son’s song
turning, tilting,
soaking strength
from heaven’s tears
spirit blooming,
bearing seeds of hope

Dreaming?

(Love Song by Giorgio de Chirico)

Dream within dreamer within dream
Fantasy? Reality? 'Tis not what it seems
Deep beneath surface, peeling back layers
Mind playing tricks, Devil may (or not) care

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My little offering for Sunday 160 (a story in exactly 160 characters-spaces included) and for Poetics at dVerse~Poet's Pub. Today's subject is to write a piece based upon one of the selected works of Giorgio de Chirico. This is my 1st stop at the Pub. I'm hoping the big guys will let me play today.
Sunday 160: Coming to Light
When the time drew near
a heavenly white light,
so bright,
approached
Unfortunately,
it was unable to
retrieve the child’s soul
for he had built his wall too high
The above is based on a recent dream
Monkey Man is host to Sunday 160: where one must write a story or poem in EXACTLY 160 characters (spaces included). Please visit his site to read other entries and complete rules.
Flash Friday 55: July 15, 2011
Growing Pains
is today the day
I run away
filled with fear,
with worrisome strife?
or do I face
that deep, dark place
detracting from a
tranquil life?
standing ground
seems so sound
though there’s always
a price to be paid
That price is plain
for it’s emotional pain
upon which
spiritual groundwork is laid
Sunday 160: Dawn's Interlude
(photo courtesy of www.inmagine.com)
morning dove croons
as busy squirrel chants
a lonely dog lending voice
a runner’s stride
and rhythmic breaths
providing accompaniment
a percussion
to morning’s melody
I Heard the Cry of Mourning Dove
I was working on a "Flash Friday 55" for G-Man's meme. Unfortunately, I was unable to trim this any further to suit with his rules. So, instead, I present to you my "63 Words on Thursday"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I heard the cry of Mourning Dove
rousing me from dreams
chanting hymns from high above
singing just for me

I heard the cry of Mourning Dove
sorrowful the song
her dulcet tones were trilling of
loss, of pain, of wrongs

I heard the cry of Mourning Dove
weeping in the tree
tears of healing, hope, and love
from branches fell on me

Flash Friday 55: This Tiny Twig

this tiny twig,
a sliver,
if you will,
suddenly,
or so it seemed,
sprouts,
erupting
from middle
of my palm
into budding branch…
appalled, yet curious,
I slowly pull,
diligently,
carefully,
for roots run deeply
surely leaving scars…
upon closer inspection,
sprigs, offshoots,
are forming elsewhere
upon this hand…
I’m persistently pruning…
tender flesh beware

Another poem from a dream. I see some symbolism here so it makes a bit of sense to me. Even if it makes no sense to you, I do hope you enjoy my effort. For more "flashes" of inspiration, please visit Mr. Know It All at the link below:

I Met the Pope: Dream Poetry

I met the pope aboard
a sailing ship from sea
docked along a busy street
in waters rough and deep

He greets me in his glory
his vestments gold and red
I kneeled, receiving blessing
and ate the sacred bread

When stepping off the vessel
tides rose then raged and roiled
The ocean on city boulevard
in turbulent state embroiled

I turn to run but stop
willing to be catechized
even though that hallowed yacht
has been broken; now capsized.

I watch the boat as it sinks
survivors are but a few
the Pontiff is not one of them
just members of loyal crew

In spite of what just happened
I continue this life’s sojourn
I gather belongings slowly
allowing time to mourn

I decide to leave my baggage
as offering, paying homage
before I journey onward
grateful for release of bondage

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This poem is based on a dream I had Sunday night (Easter). It is very personal, filled with symbols profound and deeply meaningful. I hope you enjoy and that possibly some of the metaphors will be relevant for you as well.
Affects of Addiction
Anger lies beneath
surface of conscious thought
simmering
festering
awaiting
first strike
Apathy wraps around
compassionate spirit
binding
enslaving
tethering
authentic will
Ambivalence invades
plundering faith
clouding
confusing
concealing
spiritual truths
Ardor misappropriates
selfless love into
abusing
by misusing
destroying
life once worth living
Flash Friday 55: The Crosses We Bear
Like solid rock on shifting sand
faith is tested
demons wrested
we protested
hanging on to selfishness
Worldly things cause our
ego thrusting
instead of trusting
and readjusting
attitudes toward higher will
Maybe the moral of this
simple story
is take inventory
and behold the Glory
God has in store
“Thy will, not mine, anymore”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Time got away from me this week...many activities gearing up for Spring Break and Easter. I wish I had time to spend on this more but it is what it is and is my free flow verse (with a bit of rhyme) for the day. Have a great Friday!

Alphabe-Thursday/Flash Friday 55: Z is Not the End

our journey has unfolded
from alpha through to zed
our story isn’t ending…
barely beginning instead
this zenith; this vantage point
gives clue to roads ahead
it’s time to make choices;
which paths we choose to tread
trusting insights we’ve gleaned
through joys and tears we’ve shed
weaving our life’s tapestry
from many different threads

Flash Friday 55: A Very Lame, Late Post

"55 is the limit!"
so sayeth G, the Man,
challenging our synapses
just to see if we can
write a short story,
a poetic stanza or two
what words do we choose?
which simply won't do?
begin with a topic
an idea - fresh and unique
"write, parse, edit...repeat"
becomes our mantra, each and every week!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Y is for Saying Yes
I’ve cried yes to childhood dreams
to hopes, desires, promises implied
only to capture, cage, stifle them
by burying deep inside
I’ve shouted yes to magic spells
enchantments invoked, conjured, cast
captivating, bewitching me;
part of wizarding man’s craft
I’ve whispered yes to forbidden fruit
harvested, fermented from vintner’s vine
a potion to numb my fears;
courage from bottled wine
Yearning to find a way out
of messes my yesses have wrought
gathering tools, weapons, skills
as internal battle is fought
I’ve learned the only yes that counts
is to Spirit, Father, and Son
for all that’s truly necessary
is Their will, not mine, be done
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I found "Y" to be particularly difficult this go round. I struggled to come up with enough words beginning with Y to make write a prose of any sense. So instead, I'm offering something a little different from my usual alliterative "alphabet style". I based a poem around one word. I'm not sure if it's successful or not, but it is what it is. Enjoy.
