In My Dreams: A Flash Friday 55 Offering

I developed
a secret “super power”…
an ability to hover,
in my dreams,
as I began creating.

Exhilarating,
yet remaining
earthbound

As artistic endeavors unfolded,
I soared,
slightly higher,
still tethered by rules,
restrictions,
and those silly little limitations
labeled "Laws" of Gravity.

Presently exploring,
Risk taking,
fearlessly,
(rules be damned!)
learning to fly!

Okay, so I'm rusty. I haven't written in awhile but thought I'd surprise G-Man with a Friday 55.

Preying: A Flash Friday Offering

Photo belongs to coupekid.deviantart.com

black-wolf prowls
perimeter
of conscious thought
as desire to
adopt him,
train him,
control him,
consumes
every thought,
every action,
stealing time away
from search for
long lost child.

blackbirds spy,
keeping guard,
watching,
waiting
for moment
when memories of
how powerful,
how cunning,
how baffling,
predator can be
fades...

meanwhile,
ever vigilant…
black-wolf prowls

Manifest Destiny: A Flash Friday 55 Post

Destiny made manifest
within darkest night
where dreams, hope, courage
often take flight

Battles with Evil-One
never ending fight
outcome doesn’t matter
victory’s in the plight

Listen carefully inward
‘neath those muffled layers
steel thyself in silence
answers within the prayer

Dreams are who we are
(w/dramatic flair)
destiny made manifest
in images I share

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The conversation went like this (paraphrasing):
G-Man: Are you participating this week?
5th Sister: Depends. You have a topic for me?
G: Yes I do.
5th: And?
G: Please explain the concept of Manifest Destiny
5th: Seriously?
Now I know this wasn't what he meant but I am not a History buff but rather lean towards Science and Language Arts. This is the best I could do within the time constraint given (received my topic last night). Hope it makes sense.
Trash: A Flash Friday 55 Post
fistfuls of hair from shower drain
chewed up wads of gum
take out box never claimed
loads of swept up crumbs
chicken bones, Christmas wrap
dried-up apple cores
moldy bread, mysterious crap
towels used for spills on floors
dryer lint, vacuum dust
shards of shattered glass
bits of pizza crusts
‘tis what’s in my trash
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If word count would have allowed,
I would have prefaced this piece with the following:

“one’s trash, another’s treasure”
so said G to me
I, with great pleasure,
present my trash to thee:

The Fetish: A Flash Friday 55 post

I know a man
who knows it all…
particularly women’s feet

A gentle arch,
well turned heels
makes him whimper ‘n weep

Stiletto pumps,
flip flop flats,
nicely polished toes

Platform shoes
w/narrow widths
sends him into throes!

Here’s to he
that silly gent
image just for him

 festive foot
petite, adorned
w/glittery, silvery trim

Flash Friday 55: Did You Know?

Did you know that…

…it always rains on the day you mop?
…dogs track in mud on rainy days?
… muddy dog paws are hard to clean?
…muddy pawed dogs will follow you throughout the house?
…Clorox Oxy Magic, and a good scrub brush, works wonders on muddy carpet stains?
…dogs snicker behind your back?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Clorox Oxy Magic did not pay or provide product for the endorsement included in my Flash 55 above. It's effectiveness on stubborn muddy paw prints, embedded in carpet fibers, is from experience and is my opinion only.
Flash Friday 55: The Death
Six months ago
I held your hand
as you cried,
tearfully pleading
for a gun
so that you
could take your life
for your pain was
unbearable
Last week
I held your hand
as you cried,
accepting fate…
an example
of courage
faith and strength
Today
God holds my hand
as I cry…
asking why
Flash Friday 55: G-Man Made Me Do It!
Careful.
He’s out there.
He knows where you’ve been blogging.
He knows where you social network.
You stay gone too long, he’ll come find you,
drag you back,
kicking, screaming,
ready or not.
Guilted into writing:
stringing words ,
parsing phrases,
until you’ve penned
a perfect 55
for G-Man.
(Adding a “foot-photo” wouldn’t hurt, either)
 (from Google Images)
I don't think, however, this is what he meant!
Happy 55 Galen, my friend!
Saturday Centus: Hunting Season
Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! Our beloved Ms. Jenny has decided that this was the week to test our lyric writing skills. She gave us the melody (Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star). She gave us the prompt: In the autumn. And she gave us the limitation of up to 32 words INCLUDING the prompt. At this, I take issue...I have always counted the prompt in every single centus limit Ms. Jenny has imposed and kept to the imposed word count exactly. In order to keep true with the notes and rhythm of "Twinkle", I had no choice but to cheat and use 34! Forgive me, Ms. Jenny!
In the autumn’s cool, crisp air
Mums abloom with vibrant flair
Leaves hitch ride on fall’s brisk breeze
Bare are now embarrassed trees
Time has come for season’s change
Watch out turkeys! Shooting range!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Fall is my favorite time of year. Time to break free those sweaters and boots from summer's hiding place. Long morning runs, in the cooler weather, with leaves crunching beneath the feet. Time for harvests and a myriad of fall festivals. And, of course, hunting season commences. It was tradition for my father, along with my brother, and my sister's husbands to go hunting at this time of year. Often times we'd feast on pheasant and quail, invariably biting into a wayward pellet or two. I do miss that (well except for the time my dad took me out hunting and suggested I be the "bird dog" and retrieve the "kill"...ewwww, ick!) Oh, the memories! Hee hee hee!

Flash Friday 55: Are You Ready?

(AP photo from Google Images)

Are you ready for some football?

Preseason follies (fleecing):
where NFL demands
regular ticket prices
for games,
in the grand scheme
of the season,
don’t even matter.

Players risk serious injury
trying to score
coveted title:
NFL pro.

Pity to those cut…
woe to those deemed
practice squad material.

Still we watch…
Pass the peanuts.

Saturday Centus/Sunday 160: It's Not Funny!

why does she
laugh out loud...
every minute
of every hour
of every day?

what wickedness,
what cruel curse
is at play?

she’s not laughing?
‘tis hiccups you say?

never mind

As always, the prompt is in GREEN.

Okay...I know, I know...but's it all I could come up with after a 12 hour shift at the hospital. I took the liberty of combining 2 memes into one as tomorrow is another workday for me.

Flash Friday 55: Under Construction

(photo courtesy of Argon One via Google Images)

lost in art…
journey detoured
by color, shape,
of idea forming

breathing shades of gray
until colorful patterns
surface from glimpses,
caught by mind’s eye

heart’s rhythm
guides way
along old, forgotten
roads to creation

emerging soul
flows blood upon
canvas highways
still under construction

Orange barrels
warn unsuspecting
to avoid avenues
not yet paved

Microfiction Muse #19

Overhearing his master mention
“Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”,
Bowser, quite alarmed,
took it seriously & made it his duty
to secure the west wing.

Dreaming?

(Love Song by Giorgio de Chirico)

Dream within dreamer within dream
Fantasy? Reality? 'Tis not what it seems
Deep beneath surface, peeling back layers
Mind playing tricks, Devil may (or not) care

My little offering for Sunday 160 (a story in exactly 160 characters-spaces included) and for Poetics at dVerse~Poet's Pub. Today's subject is to write a piece based upon one of the selected works of Giorgio de Chirico. This is my 1st stop at the Pub. I'm hoping the big guys will let me play today.

Flash Friday 55: The Closet

first sanctuary,
retreat from chaos
raging daily…
hiding spot
from harmful ones…
seeking,
yet always found…

eventually filled
with meaningless possessions,
meaningful to her…
until day she returned
finding her treasures,
trinkets,
thrown away, cast aside…

harboring secrets,
concealing cache…
magic crimson elixir
no longer enchanting,
replaced by memories..
flashbacks demanding
their stories be heard.

Microfiction Muse #18

Liza took Grandpa's
words of wisdom
quite literally
when he instructed:

"in order to find
the whole truth
one must always
dig a little deeper"

Saturday Centus-Sunday 160: July 31, 2011

Chef Marcel,
a man of literal sorts,
finally realizes his dream

Today is the day
he opens his very own
sidewalk café

Sacré bleu!
He has forgotten
the non-stick spray!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This weekend, Ms. Jenny challenged us with a photo prompt and was generous enough to give us up to a full 100 words to capture a story. Well, I kind of got use to the "flash fiction" posts of late so I combined her photo with Monkey Man's Sunday 160 meme, where you have to use 160 characters, exactly, to write your story. The above was my attempt.
Flash Friday 55: Expectations vs. Acceptance
Expectations are my downfall.
They, most certainly,
lead to disappointments,
to self-pity.
Instead, I’m learning,
trying something new,
(at least for me):
Acceptance.
A loaded word for sure.
Accepting life on life’s terms;
people for who they are...
realizing I am powerless
and have no control
over anything
or anyone
but myself.
Freedom through serenity.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay...so this is not a poem or a short story but rather something that has been weighing heavily on my mind lately. I am working hard on changing how I personally respond to situations rather than reacting, as was my old pattern of behavior. I find it really does work and I am truly finding inner peace and tranquility through the process.
Microfiction Muse #17
Cinderella!
Get me a snack!
Do the dishes!
All I ever do around here
is work, work, work!
Someday,
just you wait,
my prince will come
& rescue me.
