Flash Friday 55: The Quilt-A Real Life Tragedy

It all began with best of intentions,
Many poured
heart and soul
opqr into clever
little squares  opqr
One woman,
        months of
                       blood, S
                                sweat, S
                                         and tears, S

            together              mosaic                     and love.
piecing              beautiful            of friendship

Quilt raffled: winner chosen.
Rumors of impropriety.
Line drawn in sand.
Sides chosen but who knows truth?

A fabric mosaic:  tarnished,
                           tattered,
                           torn.

(this was my square)

Very well crafted. Isn't it ironic how something so innocent and thoughtful can cause so much grief at the same time.

The poem's image is stunning. The words break my heart. I hate when good things are ruined by peoples' emotional needs.

You square is perfect for the OSI prompt. I love to quilt.

Beautiful work - words, presentation, quilt. It is sad when plans go awry.

Oh Oh. I hadn't heard about the quilt raffle.
Such a sad end to a wonderful idea.

That's a lovely quilt square, I'm so sorry to hear it's become associated with some sort of strife.

Your quilt square is fantastic! It's a shame that there is such a controversy surrounding the finished quilt.

Beautiful square, sad story. I hope there can still be redemption for what I am sure is a fine quilt.

Oh! That is tragic. But also super well done. Nice square!

Here's mine.

I've had a couple of inquiries about the meaning behind my quilt block so let me give you all that story...I hope it's interesting for you:

I used to frequent All Recipes quite often. About a year and a half ago, I had a silly dream about running a race in Africa. Another AR member thought that was pretty neat so he and I began a "virtual" safari of Africa. We travelled from Cairo to Johannesburg by tallying up the miles we walked, ran, biked, etc... Many joined us for this endeavor and in 4 months we completed the journey. None of us wanted to stop so we decided to take a virtual tour of N.America! From California to NC by way of several northern states and Canada. This quilt block is representative of all that we achieved....OVER 10,000 miles in total. What an accomplishment! The stars on the blue background represent America, the maple leaf, obviously Canada, and the animal print Africa. The runner is representative of all of us who participated along the way. Our daily posts were filled with inspiration, encouragement and motivation.

It's stuff like this that has basically kept me from going to AR anymore. So sad.

On a sidenote, I love your patch!

I have always wanted to learn to quilt! That is beautiful.

Thanks for telling us the story behind the square. I am a history lover, and background stories make things so much more interesting.

Have a great one Polly!

I agree with Tats. That kind of thing is absolutely what ruined the exchange for me. I still go there for recipes...but get my virtual friend fix elsewhere <3 !!

Your quilt square is fantastic. How do people always manage to cause such commotion over things. All that hard work to be overshadowed by nonsense.
