Flash Friday 55: Childish Pain?

The sudden, searing pain made her gasp...falter...

        taking her by complete surprise.

         NO!

This isn't what she bargained for.
          She's not ready.
She can't be forced to do it this way.

Emotions boil to the surface
spewing forth in streams of curses; hateful words.

She had but one demand:

"I want that epidural NOW!"

Haha! Oh do I remember that fun. They told me to start pushing and only then did they realize I was in the wrong kind of bed. You don't know pressure until they tell you to "hold the pushes" while they switch beds on you. To this day my Hubby wonders why they even bothered to switch them. I know it was no joy for me either, lol.

The best possible, most perfect pain of all

Great piece of prose! I've never had an epidural, although I will sheepishly admit to asking for one with my first child-- I just waited too long to request it! So glad it happened that way, because I learned that I was stronger than I knew. With the others, I was able to go into it knowing it was going to be very painful, but feeling empowered to get through it.

Polly, this is beyond excellent! And the accompanying photo is like the frosting on a cake.

Wow! That's exactly what it's like! Awesome job!

Well said! And that's exactly what my wife said. Though the sneaky nurses made her wait until too late, so she only got pethadine and had to deliver the old fashioned way.

With my first, they had me on Pitocin all night so I was having back to back contractions without a break in between. I was so exhausted that I didn't even realise I was sobbing! When the new nurse came on shift she said "Honey, you need an epidural." As soon as it kicked in I wanted to sleep. Of course, then they decided to do a c-section so I didn't get my nap.

Love this! I'm actually looking forward to going through this again in September :)

All I can say is, epidurals are a woman's best friend :)

Been there, done that. And done that. And done that. And done that. And done that. The worse possible thing you can hear at that very moment.

Too late!

oh this is so funny. When my daughter was having her baby she wanted to go au naturale. The water bath, no drugs, midwife, etc.

Needless to say, even though I told her but who listens to their mothers God forbid - she had no concept of the pain. By the time even the morphine no longer worked Nichols was too far in the birth canal for an epidural. At this point my daughter refused to go on. I mean she refused to finish the birthing process. She was so hysterical that her husband, the midwife and three nurses had to leave the room. Guess who had to talk her into finishing. And you have no idea how stubborn my daughter is.

LOL. am I allowed to gloat that I had an elective c-section? while my va-jay-jay didn't tear or anything, I wouldn't say the c-section was a peach, either. hee hee

I was a chicken when it came to getting pierced in the spine. Just thinking about the shot makes me gag a little. I think that might be why I stopped at 2, and the "ring of fire" YeS!! I know why it is called the "RING OF FIRE" I had to take a epi. for the first after I could not relax. They told me "Take an epi, or we will have to do a c-section." I took the epi, and watched my husband turn as white as the walls. He just became a part of the wall. The 2nd one...no shots! Not because I was brave...because I hate shots!

And THAT is exactly why I do not have any children.

GREAT 55!!

Darn, that made my toes curl and a sweat break out on my brow...I've done that seven times, never had an epidural. Couldn't bear the thought of an epidural while in labor. Very well written 55! :))
