Silly Haiku Wednesday: Crunch Time

Crunch Time

Almonds and cashews.
This is what “crunch” means to me!
Daily snack attack.

Oh! You meant Christmas?
Gifts are wrapped. The table’s set.
Prepared for Christ’s birth.

On A Serious Note

What is going on this week? I mean seriously. I was on my way to a meeting at work last night around 6:00pm. I was startled by someone darting across the 2 lane highway at rush hour. I slowed way down because I noticed another person along the side of the road. Not 5 seconds later I came upon someone lying in the middle of the road. SOMEONE HAD JUST BEEN STRUCK BY A CAR. I pulled my car into the turn lane and turned on my flashers (leaving the right lane for through traffic). I jumped out shouting "Don't move her!" Fortunately, a nurse was on the scene already stabilizing her head and neck. We both just kept talking smoothly and calmly to her while awaiting police and medics. She was a young thing...not over 18 years old. Her body was broken, lying twisted in the road way. The only way she could communicate was by moaning. We kept her focus during what seemed like a terribly long wait. My heart was breaking for the woman that struck her...she was in hysterics. It was already terribly dark at that time and with what I witnessed just a few seconds earlier I can thoroughly understand the saying: "There, but for the Grace of God, go I". I wish I knew the name of that nurse. She was phenomenal and, I do believe, this girl child's guardian angel.

Larry Update

I just received an email from my sister Carrie. She wasn't able to "talk yet" but has asked that I come to Topeka. I am in the process of making arrangements to leave. I'll continue to keep you updated as I can, but please, please, please...keep those prayers and good thoughts coming! God's love be with you all!

Don't forget you are that girls' Angel as well.
I continue to pray for Larry and Carrie. Also, for you to help give your sister strength.

Oh my goodness what a terrible scene you came upon. Good for you and the nurse for being good samaritans. Travel safely and will be thinking of you all.

I've just been catching up with all your news - holy smokes!

I'll keep Larry, Carrie and Daisy in my thoughts... and you as well of course! I hope Larry pulls through.

Isn't that girl who was hit by the car lucky that two level headed women were there for her? Do you know how she's doing? How awful to be the one who hit her. What possesses people to try and cross busy roads where they shouldn't? Honestly.

Safe trip - and of course I wish you a Merry Christmas, although with all you have going on, that might be tough to achieve. Hope your family gets that miracle.

*hugs*

Now we'll need a double dose of miracles- for the girl and your brother in law. I still believe in miracles, though, so I'm pulling for both! Please have a safe trip and a very merry Christmas.

Please no my dear sweet friend that my thoughts are with you and I send as much Aloha and Sunshine as I can for your BIL. And you are one great woman to stop and help that poor girl. You are her Christmas Miracle. You and that nurse. Your Haikus are wonderful my friend. Happy Holidays to you and your entire family :)

Pedestrians being struck is a HUGE problem here. Many are from countries where the idea of crosswalks are foreign. And, they do not realize that the sun angles this time of year make them practically invisible.

Wishes for your celebration to be joyful, in whatever way it occurs!

I just added my prayers to those for your brother-in-law, Larry. I also asked for guidance and comfort for his loved ones while they (you) await further developments.

Your haiku is perfect. To me Christmas has never had a "crunch" time because it is about celebrating Christ, not the perfect presentation of presents and such.
