For the Love of Dog

The Carolina Panthers may have lost in their playoff game
but Daisy reminds me that the "Love of Dog" puts everything into perspective.

Monday Musings: January 16, 2012 (Abbreviated Version)

Dear Munchie-Boy,

Congratulations. You did it. You achieved your 1st milestone of puberty. You are now taller than me. This does not, however, give you license to use me as an armrest!

A vertically challenged 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Bethany,
One word: Bravo!
A proud Mama 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Blogging Buddies,

Bear with me as I adjust to my increased work schedule. Posts have been sporadic at best and I am having the most difficult time getting back into a routine after the holiday season. Until then, I will post when I can.

Your MIA 5th

Monday Musings: October 3, 2011

Dear Amy (physical therapist extraordinaire),

I think I love you. You are a miracle worker! Your practiced touch has relieved me of what was becoming a chronic pain. And, thanks to you, I was able to run The Race for the Cure pain free! I can’t wait to see what you have in store for me on Friday!

A grateful 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Race for the Cure,
What fun we had this past Saturday! The whole family enjoyed the giveaways: scarves, food, gloves, etc. The scarves and gloves were especially welcome on that cold, brisk morning! Aside from having to run uphill the last mile of the course, the run was really great.
A worn out (yet pain free) 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Colleague,

Next time I agree to work for you, if you find someone else please just call to let me know. I would have much rather slept in Sunday morning instead of arriving to work at O: dark-thirty (only to find I was not needed).  Oh well…I used the extra time for prayer and meditation. Heaven knows I needed to!

A weary Respiratory 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Carolina Panthers,
Next week please invite the defense to show up. Thank you very much.
A still hopeful, 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Cable TV,

Not sure if I’m going to miss you or not, seeing how I don’t watch that much television (aside from football, an occasional food show, and my guilty pleasure, Ghost Hunters). You see, Mr. Sister has found a new hobby…redesigning how we view TV at home…it involves our own DVR system, computers, internet, and lots of magic fairy dust.  I’m sure it will mean adding a few more remote controls to our already overflowing arsenal!

An ambivalent 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Cleaning Lady,
I fear it is time to let you go. I believe your judgment has become impaired. I am still resenting the fact that my wedding ring, the one Mr. Sister and I designed ourselves, the one containing diamonds and sapphires, went missing when you invited your daughter’s boyfriend to help you clean. I will give you one month’s notice and will still insist you come by yourself. I am sorry it has to be this way.
A disappointed 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Bloggers,

My blog reader has been “messed up” this past week so I have not been able to visit as I normally do. Hopefully whatever bug was in the system has been cleaned up. I will try to be a better blog friend!

Monday Musings: September 26, 2011

Dear Munchie-Boy,

Next time, let's try to finish school projects the night before rather than beginning them at 6:00am the day they are due. Okay? Great. Glad to get that settled.

Your Mama 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Carolina Panthers,
I am crazy happy about your win, especially through adverse conditions such as the torrential downpour, flooded field, and all. My wish is that I could have been there to enjoy the win with you and the fans! I was able, however, to catch bits and pieces of the game. The only one watching the game where I work was a sweet little old lady who excitedly told me all about the touchback that occurred early in the 1st quarter.
A purrfectly contented 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Employer,

I thank you for giving me 3 months notice that I will no longer be benefit eligible come January 1, 2012. I absolutely love what I do but I expect a fair exchange for my services. Hopefully I'll be able to slide into any future benefit eligible position that becomes available. Until then I will need to seriously consider any and all options available. I've been with you all from the very start, the very 1st day you opened your doors to the public. I have been one of your strongest cheerleaders ever since. That is why this is difficult for me. With that said, I accept that the economy has been the determining factor surrounding this decision, that it is not personal. I firmly believe that as one door closes, another shall open. Hopefully it will be the employee entrance at the back of the hospital.

Your faithful 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Bursitis,
I've had enough. You can go now. Bye bye!
A gimpy 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Morning Run,

Okay, let's see if these new orthotic inserts will do the trick. See you in 5!

A running 5th

Dear Housework,

Can you wait until tomorrow? Please? Thanks.

An ever procrastinating 5th

Monday Musings: June 6, 2011

Dear Nosy Nurse,

Yes, I do, in fact, realize that I have lost weight.
No, I am not dieting.
No, I am not a practicing bulimic or anorexic.
No, I am not still losing weight.
Yes, that's true, I'm not gaining either.
Yes, I am being followed by my doctor.
No, I am not sick.
Yes, I appreciate your concern and worry.

I have to turn the tables and ask you a question, however. Just how am I suppose to take your closing remark, "BUT...you look great!" after being interrogated with such pointed questions? Curiosity cuts both ways. But because I do not have the capability of reading your mind, I will take it at face value and say thank you. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to lunch.

A sensitively skinny 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Munch,
1.2 miles of open water swimming in 38.02 minutes, coming in at #5 out of a large field of participants. Cool. Very cool.
Your impressed Mama 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Bethany,

Life is about choices and the consequences of our actions. I am so glad you were able to rise to the occasion this weekend and do the right thing.

A proud Mama 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Prairie,
I will be returning home, soon, for my annual visit. I miss your sweet smelling grass, your unhurried ways, the beauty that is uniquely you, and my sisters who call you home. Please save some "not cloudy all day" blue skies for me!
A nostalgic 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Mr. Sister,

Sometimes you leave me speechless and at other times you frighten me. This is one of those rare occasions  where you leave me both.

A creeped out Mrs. Sister

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Mr. Sister,
Then there are those times you simply surprise me. Thank you for the beautiful anniversary roses and the lovely dinner out.
The Mrs. 5th of 20 years!
PS So when are we going skydiving?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Doctor,

Metabolic alkalosis. I repeat...metabolic alkalosis. I do not have any magic to correct metabolic alkalosis. The blood that was drawn 3 times in a 24 hour period all have been saying the same thing: metabolic alkalosis.

5th Sister, RRT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Little Sisters,
Today is the last day of school...Congrats on a mighty fine year! I am very proud of all your achievements, your grades, and the work ethic you clearly demonstrated with your homework and studying.
A gleeful Mama 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Charlotte Children's Choir,

I am sorry to have missed your 25th Anniversary Gala and Auction. I heard it was a great success. I am grateful that choir mom, Jan F., recorded and posted (onto Facebook) the world wide premier of  Da Pacem: a commissioned piece, specifically composed just for this monumental milestone, by Paul Caldwell. Bethany was very happy to have been but one voice in celebration!

Bravo!

An Absolutely Amazed 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am sorry if the above video does not come across for you. When the choir mom posts directly to YouTube I will definitely edit this post with the new link.
Monday Musings: April 25, 2011
Dear Munchie-Boy,
You have spent the entire week camping out on the back deck. Daisy was delighted to share that special bonding time with you. Unfortunately spring break is over and you must sleep in your own bed now.
Mama 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Department Manager,

Thank you for the new schedule beginning July. My family and I look forward to spending more time together on the weekends. And my body thanks you for the end of my 3 12's in a row. You're the best!

5th Sister, RRT

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear God,
It was humbling to see your angels at work over Easter weekend...calling home those suffering souls in time to see the resurrected Christ.
A prayerful 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear child of mine (who shall not be named),

You've had your license for 2 months. I really don't want to have to take you for remedial driving lessons, but that just might be the case. At least the right rear fender now matches the left. Sigh.

Mama 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Hospital Administration,
The Easter candy was so thoughtful! Thank you for thinking of those of us working this most sacred of holidays. I especially enjoyed the Reese's eggs and the Smarties!
A Chocoholic 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Medical Bills,

It's really okay with me should you decide to make a clean break and not appear unexpectedly in my mailbox anymore. Just when I think we're at the point where we can say our goodbyes, you show up, unannounced. Please, let's be amicable about this and call it quits. I promise you I won't take it hard. I will not be staying up late at night shedding tears, nor will I be crying over the Due Upon Receipt letters that, hopefully, stop showing up. It's best this way. Really.

A financially strapped 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Songbirds,
Welcome home!
A delighted 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Carpool,

Here we go again.

A peeved and annoyed 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is now time to begin the day...and it appears it will be a beautiful day indeed, for the sun is shining and the birds are singing. The pollen even appears to be abating. All causes for a joy filled heart. May your week be a special one. Remember...it is all in how you look at life: an attitude of gratitude.
Monday Musings (on a Tuesday Morning): April 19, 2011
Dear Dreams,
I truly treasure the fact that you believe I am capable of participating in a beauty pageant with the likes of Britney Spears and my lovely daughter. However, if I am going to compete, I’d appreciate it if you supply me with the appropriate accouterments’:  evening gown, swim suit, and talent. Oh, and a copy of the rules, too, would have been nice. Who would have thought that my marriage disqualified me for competition?
A disappointed (but secretly relieved) 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear God,

Thank you for the manifestation of your love, mercy, and omnipotence these past few weeks. May I always remember this moment in time should I ever experience doubt or self pity again.

A humble and contrite 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Allergies,
It’s just not working out for me. I do believe that it would be best if we part ways. I wish I could tell you that I would miss the way you make my eyes itch and tear, or the way my nose would drip at the most inopportune times, or even those sudden sneezes that would catch me off guard and startle the dog...but that would not be true. I also wish I could tell you that it’s “me and not you”, that this is harder for me than you, or that someday, maybe, we can work things out...but I’d be lying.  I even wish I could tell you that I will miss you. Unfortunately, both you and I know that won’t be the case. A clean break is best.
You may keep the tissues.
Formerly yours,
A soupy, sniffling, and snotty 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Mourning Doves,

I respectively ask you to cease and desist in your taunting of the dog, especially during the early morning hours.

A sleepy 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Munch,
Sleeping out on the deck 2 nights in a row? Is this how you plan on spending your Spring Break? You must be staying up really late at night and be extra exhausted if you can sleep through Daisy’s barking at taunting birds. Oh, and you’re going to have to get up pretty soon and do your chores if you want to see that movie this afternoon. Up and at’em!
Your mean Mama 5th
Have a happy Easter/Passover break, Everyone!
Our Halloween Pictorial
Four Gourds Gutted
Here is what became of them.
The "Apple", carved by Bethany,
was the hit of the night
and frightened many a PC user.
Hello. My name is Minerva McGonnigal,
Headmistress of Gryffindor House.
Allow me to introduce you to my favorite student,
Harry Potter.
(yes, I know Munch was Harry last year
but he really liked his costume)
Grayback showed up in our kitchen
in search of his prey, the young Potter boy.
Harry, being the masterful wizard he is,
subdues Grayback, with the help of his Godfather,
Sirius Black (in animagus form).
Bethany was going to a party at the Church.
She is St. Felicity, a slave of St. Perpetua
in the 3rd century AD.
She was martyred for her faith
shortly after giving birth to her baby.
Good friends and neighbors
ready for All Hallow's Eve.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It's just too painful to talk about the Carolina Panthers so I won't.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Before I close I must tell you a story:  Mr. Sister and I attended a Halloween costume party Friday night. A woman, scantily clad as a firefighter, came up to my husband and said, "Did you come alone, because you certainly are the pick of the litter!"  Apparently I was near but I did not hear this. It gave me a good chuckle when Mr. Sister relayed the pick up line to me. I believe he was quite flattered. I know I was because I certainly do have "the pick of the litter"!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That's it for today. Make it a great week, my friends and enjoy this beautiful autumn weather.

Microfiction #54 and Monday Musings

The carnies were not amused when the bearded fat lady suggested they all go skinny dipping after lunch.

For details on the "rules" of participation, please visit Susan over at Stony River.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I survived my marathon work weekend. It was busy. It was exhausting. And you could definitely tell that there was a full moon. Bare with me while it may take some time to get back in full bloggy mode.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Carolina Panthers,

Unfortunately, I was at work and too busy to sneak a peek at the game. I hear it was a nail biter. Congratulations on your 1st win of the season. You made my daughter very, very happy.

A truly surprised 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Pop Tarts,
I really should invest in your company. It's always a major crisis, in the mornings, if we have run out. It is Munchie-Boy's favorite food group, next to mac and cheese. I, however, have yet to eat one myself...I just can't get past that scary ingredient list!
A wary 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear St. Anthony,

You are amazing! You truly are a favored friend of Jesus! Thank you for your intercessions.

A constantly amazed 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyone else watch that "hoarding" show on TV? I don't know why I am inexplicably drawn to it. I find it both fascinating and disturbing. But, then again, I also watch Ghost Hunters as well. Maybe I'm the one that's fascinating and disturbing? Hmmmmm.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I was thinking the other day how life, as I know it, will change in just 3 short months. Bethany gets her driver's license. And I do believe a little bit more "mommy freedom" will be the result! Although I will worry as heck whenever she takes her place behind the wheel, I will also be doing a little "happy dance" in my mind.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today is the the Student Council election at Munchie's school. He is such a sweet, gentle natured kid brimming with self confidence. I do hope and pray that, whatever the outcome, his heart is not broken. Go Munch and rock that vote!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It is now time to take on the day. I wish you all a happy Monday with a wonderful week to follow.

Monday, September 20, 2010

Monday Musings: September 20, 2010

Have you ever been so glad to begin a new week? I would kind of like to forget that last week happened all together.

First came the worst "cold" I have ever experienced. Truly. I totally lost my voice. The throat pain was searing. The fatigue immense. It was worse than the flu. I say this because at least with the flu at least you are forced to rest. A couple of days in bed and voila...feeling better. As you will see I did not have the luxury to ride this one out. (Although I am feeling much better, the virus has decided to linger in my lungs.)

Munchie Boy came down with the same virus early last week. It was 10 times worse than anything I was suffering. Poor kid missed almost an entire week of school. He required breathing treatments. It took days before his fever broke. When he lost his voice he wrote me a note that said "This is the WORST WEEK EVER!" And it truly was.

For you see, during Munchie's illness, I was forced to be an absentee mother. Tuesday evening Mr. Sister was complaining of not feeling well. Mr. Sister doesn't complain so I took him to urgent care to be checked out. They did an EKG because his heart rate was slow (we're talking in the 30's) and irregular. We were sent to the emergency room and he ended up being admitted for observation. The next day an echo-cardiogram showed a strong healthy heart. The stress test indicated a problem with the "conduction", aka sinus node. The question is "why"? The answer is "We don't particularly know". Mr. Sister is feeling much better and that's a plus. He goes back to the cardiologist in a month.

All this added stress was particularly hard on Bethany...who, getting over the illness herself, had to take care of Paul. She was one tough cookie this past week and I am really proud of her for stepping up to the plate.

And what would a "Monday Musing" post be without a letter to my beloved Panthers? I think they now know how pitiful and pathetic they are this season. Nothing I can say or write will make them better or bring me satisfaction. The only bright spot yesterday was the time I got to spend with Bethany at the game.

And now it is now time to begin our Monday: wake the kids, make lunches, etc. Here's to the hope that a better week ensues!

Monday, August 23, 2010

Monday Musings: August 23, 2010

Dear Carolina Panthers,

There are only 3 games that I am able to attend this year due to my work schedule. Could you try just a little harder?  Please, for my sanity's sake?

A fanatic 5th

PS:  These may be the last games I'll be able to attend as Mr. Sister is considering selling our PSL's  (boo hoo)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Matt Moore,
You are NOT all that. I remain quite unimpressed.
A disappointed 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Jake Delhomme,

I miss you!

Your #1 Fan

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Mr. Sister,
Thank you for the wonderful early birthday gift of my new Android. However, your gift has had some unintended consequences, for you see, I have fallen in love. I couldn't help myself.  I keep "Andy" near me at all times. He is always at my beck and call. He provides me with quick and easy access to my emails, Facebook and my blog. Andy is also is so very generous with his apps, constantly piquing my interest and entertaining me.  I am so sorry you had to find out this way.
Your "two timing" 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Sprint,

Thank you for taking such good care of Andy when he fell ill and refused to send texts. Your prompt action to  replace my beloved was greatly appreciated. I'm sure I'll love Andy Jr. just as much, if not more, than Andy the 1st.

A grateful 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Dreams,
Not only one apartment but two to clean this time? I know I've had plenty of practice this summer but seriously, I am one that believes sleep should be for rest. Can you give me a break?
A dream weary 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Today starts the week that things should be getting back to normal. Bethany starts her choir with a 4 hour retreat this afternoon and then her school begins on Wednesday. Munch begins middle school this Friday. Wow. The 1st time in 5 years that I won't be homeschooling at least one child! Unbelievable. Oh, I won't be living the life of luxury, however, as there is much that I will be doing and working on. Still, it's bittersweet, but the time to cut the apron strings is now.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I best conclude my musings for the day. I have a meeting to attend to shortly and other things requiring my attention. Make it a happy Monday dear friends. God bless!
Monday, July 26, 2010
Monday Musings: July 26, 2010
Unfortunately I do not have the time to muse about much today. My work schedule is a bit different this week as today is actually my Sunday and yesterday was my next Saturday. You see, I am taking next weekend off to go do some fun stuff. More on that in a future post.
However, if I were to muse, I would be complaining about this vicious heat wave (where it is just too dangerous to be outdoors in the middle of the day). Or maybe about this massive cleaning binge I've been on. Possibly I'd write about Munchie Boy's entrepreneurial spirit where he made a whopping $13 on his iced tea stand this past weekend. I could, and probably would, tell you how I am really looking forward to meeting my pals Joann and Joanna after work for dinner. I might even have shared a strange dream or two. But alas, there is no time to do so as I must be getting ready for work.
Have a terrific Monday and stay safe in this heat!
Monday Musings: July 12, 2010
Dear Daffy,
I made your Daffy Dip last week. I decided, instead of using it as a dip, to incorporate it into our meal. I diced potatoes and spread them, along with fresh green beans, onto my stoneware cookie sheet. I then drizzled them with olive oil and sprinkled them with a bit of Kosher salt and pepper. After which tossed it together with the dip and roasted the veggies at 400 for about 45 minutes or so. Can I just say yum? YUM! Thanks for sharing your RECIPE.
A stuffed 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Female Jogger (who passed me on my morning run),

Oh, you so delighted me this morning! I wish I had your courage. I am being completely serious and sincere about this. You were quite brave to venture out in the purple paisley tank top, the black and white striped shorts and the rainbow socks. You rocked the look! I wish that I had your kind of "devil may care" attitude. Thanks for my morning smile!

A tickled 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Chick-fil-A,
Your annual Cow Appreciation Day was a complete success. The Sister "herd" bedecked themselves in appropriate cow costuming attire. The free meal, generously given to those brave enough to come in costumed, was very much appreciated.
A very "mooved" 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear David Slade (Director of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse),

Your direction was much more enjoyable than Catherine Hardwicke's Twilight and Chris Weitz's New Moon. Is it Academy Award material? No. But adding more action and a little self deprecating humor definitely was a benefit to the story line and has made me look forward to the 4th movie installment.

A matinée lovin' 5th

PS: Team Edward or Team Jacob? Neither...Team Jasper for me!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Feral Shoes,
I tired of always tripping over you on the garage steps. I grew weary of you being haphazardly strewn about the place. You now have your own resting spot. Hopefully the rest of the sister clan will learn to kennel you when not being worn.
It's amazing what a few cinder blocks and planks of plywood can do.  And everyone has their own shelf. Sometimes it's the simple things that bring the most pleasure.
A satisfied 5th
PS: I have decided I am going to go ahead and add the 2 additional shelves our plywood planks have allowed us to. Both I and Mr. Sister have too many shoes!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Michelle (from Musings of a Catholic Lady) and Weezer (from Weezer's Haven),

Thank for the lovely new "Versatile Blogger Award" award! It is very meaningful to me that you took the time to recognize my blog within your own. I know there are a few rules attached but, lately, I've been a rule breaker. I will simply give you my sincerest gratitude. I also encourage people to check out your blogs as well.

A grateful 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Tugce and Jingle,
I wish to thank you for sharing your awards with your followers as well. I gratefully accept your generosity. Tugce is my Turkish girlfriend who I can always count on for a friendly nod of encouragement. I wish I understood her native language but, thankfully, she speaks fluent English. I adore her blog: Boulevard of Broken Dreams and hope that, one day, fate will allow us to meet. The award she has shared is the "Sweet Blog" award and it is just too precious not to accept.
And Jingle, dear sweet Jingle, is so generous with awards. I decided to accept the offer of grabbing one of the awards offered by invitation. I chose to accept The Most Intelligent Poet Award for obvious reasons, as that is my goal to be someday. Thank you Jingle for your continued generosity and support!
Please visit the blogs highlighted. I am sure you won't be disappointed.
An appreciative 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That's all the musings for today! Have a wonderful and blessed day.

Monday Musings: June 27, 2010

Dear Sanity,

I kindly look forward to your return. You've been missed.

A crazed 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Pizza Man,
Awesome job....outstanding crust, spicy sauce, superb toppings. Too bad there aren't any leftovers.
A stuffed 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Heat Wave,

You can go now. Anytime. Thanks and bye bye!

A sweltering 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And now....notes to my garden:
Dear Cucumber,
What am I going to do with all your produce? I guess it's going to be cucumber week in the Sister house. Let's see: cucumber salad, tzatziki sauce, and maybe the "fried cucumber" recipe I found on All Recipes. Hmmmm.
An astonished 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Zucchini,

I am terribly sorry you are ailing. I do not know what I did or how to save you. I do appreciate the two, teeny tiny zucchini you were able to produce before you became ill. I will do my best to nurse you back to health but I am afraid that your condition may be terminal.

A sorrowful 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Cayenne,
Yikes! You are quite the spicy number aren't you? Mr. Sister only used 2 of you in his pizza sauce and let me just say: Bring on the heat!
A fired up 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Green Peppers,

Looking good. Just waiting for you to grow a bit more before I pluck you!

A salivating 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Tomatoes,
Ah...nice and plump...just need a little more ripening and then you can join your pal cucumber in a tasty Sister salad! Can hardly wait!
A patient 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Weeds,

Go away. You are not welcome around here. I'd much rather tend to my veggies than deal with the likes of you!

An angered 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Fresh Herbs,
You know I love you. Shhhh. Don't tell the produce but you are my absolute favorite part of the Sister garden! You make everything so fresh and tasty! And now that I know how to "flash dry"*(see below) you, you will play an even bigger role in meal prep!
Oh pretty basil, sage, rosemary, oregano, chives and thyme! So savory and seductive!
An adoring 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

*Dear Blog friends,

Here is how I "flash dried" my herbs this weekend:
Pre-heat the oven to 250 degrees.
Spread herbs out onto a shallow cookie sheet.
Bake for approximately 10 minutes.
Remove from oven and allow to cool.
Now you can crush and place in a sealed jar or baggie for later use.
How easy is that?

A helpful 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bye friends! Hope your day is grand and a great start to your week. Happy Monday!
Monday Musings: June 14, 2010
Dear Summer,
Yeah, it's about time you made it official, seeing how you've been hanging around the past several weeks. Listen, I know that generally you are all about sunshine and heat but I give you permission to take a break every once in awhile. We won't mind...honest! In any case, welcome back!
Warmly yours,
One Hot 5th!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Bethany,

Congratulations on landing your summer babysitting job! It will keep you busy and out of trouble. Listen, can I borrow $20?

Your cash poor Mama 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Ikea,
I love you! Where else could I have gone and picked up 14 storage bins, 20 wooden hangers and a full lunch for 3 for under $50? Awesome! Next time I promise we'll spend more time together...Bethany is in the market for a new bookcase.
Gratefully yours,
A Penny Pinching 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Boss,

I may be getting a wee bit too old for 36 hours, 3 days in a row, 12 hour shifts. Although we were steady and not overwhelmingly too busy, I'm unsure if my joints can handle it much longer! Let's suffice it to say that now that I am no longer a "home schooling mom" I have a bit more flexibility with the schedule.

A weary 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Right Knee,
What gives? I've never had an issue with you before. At 48 (nearly 49) you are way too young to begin giving me trouble. Now stop it. I mean it!
A hobbled 5th
Dear Ben Gay,
Although you sure can be a smelly and greasy mess may I just say THANK YOU! You helped me forget about the trouble Mr. RK was causing. I hope you don't mind if I hold you hostage for a while longer. I'll release you to the comfy confines of your drawer as soon as RK starts behaving.
Dear Monday,
It felt good to sleep in until 6:30 am. I was hoping to stay in bed a wee bit longer but 6:30 is better than 4:30 any day. Could you tell your buddy Tuesday to not disturb me until maybe after 7:00? Thanks. I appreciate it.
A weary 5th
Wishing you all a great week this 1st day of Summer!
Monday Musings: June 14, 2010
Dear Weekend,
Could you have been any more hectic?
Still recovering,
A frazzled 5th
Dear Swim Meet Host Facility,
As always, you picked the hottest weekend of the year to host this annual outdoor meet. I am surprised we didn't melt away into unrecognizable puddles!  Oh and thanks for allowing us to set up our tent! Don't know what we would have done if we didn't have shade!
A sweaty and dehydrated 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Coaches and Officials,

Please watch more closely the swimmers at the start of the individual heats...especially for swimmers who are out of place and take over heats/lanes that don't belong to them. Unfortunately, because this happened my Munch, who was ready to swim his heat, had to swim in a later heat with swimmers who were more experienced and quite a bit faster than him all because a misinformed swimmer insisted it was his event. Kind of discouraging to a kid, even though he improved his time, to finish in the back of the pack.

Keeping a close watch,
A concerned 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Munchie Boy,
We are very proud of your results at this 2 day meet. Despite one disqualified heat (his goggles fell off causing an illegal stroke as he tried to adjust them) you were able to improve your time in every single event! I am most proud of the 20 seconds you shaved off of your 100 meter backstroke. Way to go!
Sleep in this morning...you deserve it!
With love,
Mama 5th
Dear Bethany,
You may drive this week. I am tired of  being on the road over 6 hours to and from the Hickory swim meet. Yeah, I thought you'd appreciate this!
What am I thinking?
Dear Cast and Crew of Wicked,
Bravo! It was a wonderful performance! We all enjoyed ourselves immensely. Standing O!
In defiance of gravity,
A captivated 5th
Dear Mother Nature,
You can stop with the hot and steamy any time now. Seriously. Don't you think a nice little cool front is called for? Please? Well, at least think about it.
With the utmost respect,
An overheated 5th
I am off to slay the laundry beast...have a wonderful Monday my friends!
Monday Musings-May 3, 2010
Dear Quail Hollow Championship,
First of all, let me commend you on a marvelous day of golf. Always a surprise finish is in store! Yesterday was no exception. What started as a day in which 3 "old timers" were jockeying for position, a young upstart, barely 21, comes out of nowhere only to break the course record by 2 strokes! My hearty congratulations to Ireland's Rory McIlroy. What fun that was to watch!
Second, isn't there anyway to make this event smoke free? Seriously...the cigarette smoke was so thick that it caused my airways to constrict and I'm not even asthmatic! I would think that in this day and age a designated smoking area would be warranted.
Third...what was up with the food? I spent $7.50 for a chicken sandwich that was nothing but a boiled, unseasoned, rubbery piece of meat sandwiched within an over-microwaved bun. I was expecting something pretty outstanding at that price. What a disappointment.
Fourthly...Rickie Fowler. What was up with that day glow orange outfit of yours? From your hat to your shoes and all areas between...you looked like you were out on work release from prison! It was terribly hard on the eyes. It really hurt to look your way, that color so intense. Here's a fashion tip for you: LESS IS MORE, especially with a color such as that.
Finally, all in all, this was a mighty fine way to spend the day with my son!
Here's to next year,
A Sunburned 5th
PS  Angel Cabrera...thank you for not yelling at me this year like you did last year. (apparently I was a "distraction" and in his line of vision as he was trying to get out of the bunker on the 16th green).
Dear Neonatal Resuscitation Protocol Recertification Test,
My plan is to defeat you today. Consider this a warning.
Yours until 2012,
A Studious Sis
Dear Sewing Machine,
Good girl. Job well done. 3 dresses and 5 skirts in less than a week? Outstanding. You have earned a well deserved rest.
Sew happily yours,
Dear Theater Director,
Please, oh pretty please approve of Bethany's costume ensembles. I do not want to have to do any more sewing or shopping.
Thank you,
A Burnt Out Sister
Dear Munchie Boy,
Congratulations on getting through your week long end of grade testing! I am proud of you and am sure
you did very well. It will be bittersweet ending this final year of homeschooling. Next year we will begin a new chapter in our lives as you begin middle school at the same charter school Bethany attends. I will miss spending our days together but it is time to cut these apron strings. You will be fine.
Love,
Mama 5th
Monday Musings-April 12,2010
Dear Pizza Man,
Outstanding job on this week's traditional pizza night. The crust was perfectly thin and crispy. The toppings were very nice as well. And I must add that the undertone of "heat" from the added cayenne was a terrific touch. I am so glad to have not had to cook when I came home from work! Thank you!
Ciao baby,
Una felice stomaco!
Dear Weekend,
Unfortunately I had to work so i was unable to enjoy and appreciate your full glory. Could you please come back next Saturday? I promise to make full use of your glory as I do have a garden to plant. Thanks. I knew I could count on you.
Longing for you,
A very pale 5th
Dear Daisy,
I realize that your weekly treat is leftover pizza crust. I understand your excitement and can appreciate how you look forward to pizza night at the Sister house. With that said, that does not mean you have the right to beg, whine, jump, and make a nuisance of yourself come Sunday morning when I am packing a slice for my lunch at work. Get a grip girl!
Your master,
Mama 5th
Dear Blog Friends,
For the past several weeks I have been experimenting with poetry and other writing forms on my blog. I would like to thank all of you for your positive feedback. Your words have been very encouraging. My hope is that I can keep this up and keep things fresh and bold!
Gratefully yours,
Forever 5th
Awards Corner
Sweet Ms. Bibi from From Misery to Happiness included me in her awards show last week. She decided that I deserved the Circle of Friends award.
This is what she said, and I quote:
"I will pass this award onto bloggers who I consider to be my good friends - bloggers who've been there for me since my beginning and bloggers who support me pretty much everyday. the ones that come, read and comment even if I have nothing interesting to say. That's what I call FRIENDS."
Aw, Bibi! Thank you. I believe what you wrote summed it all up very well. We have become a circle of friends through this thing called blogging. I do remember your humble beginnings and look at you now!!!! I am proud to be considered your friend and the feeling is mutual. Thank you.
Seeing how it's Monday and nearly 6 am I must go and seize this day. I need to get my rear in gear and make some lesson plans for the Munch and at least change out of my jammies for carpool duty (although I have been known not to!).  Have a marvelous day!
Monday Musings-April 5, 2010
Dear Bally Nails,
Bravo on the masterful pedicure last week. I'm really digging the color! I also want to thank you for putting in massage chairs. Nice touch.  Although the massage to my, ahem, tushie was unexpected! I'll forgive you for that because, gosh darn, my toes do look great!
Your newest fan,
Dear Spring,
I love you, you know that. With that said, could you hurry up and get over the pollen already? Seriously suffering here!
Dear Subconscious,
Seriously...these dreams are getting too bizarre. Can we take a break? Just until I can get caught up on my sleep. Please?
While I was self absorbed in my poetry and writings last week, I racked up a couple of awards!
I received this lovely award from a great blog friend, Shakira. If you haven't, please go visit her at YOU ARE NEVER ALONE. You cannot help but smile and be filled with hope during your visit. She is quite the gracious hostess.
I really like this award as it is validation for where I am trying to take my blog. I struggle with rules so I will just pass this on to the following friends who have been an inspiration to me and my writing:
Jenny Matlock of Jenny Matlock
These ladies have provided the prompts necessary to spur me along and the encouragement to continue with my little musings. Thank you, ladies, with all my heart!
The lovely Betty over at Cut and Dry, who always leaves a smile with her words and with her blog, graced me with the Sunshine Award:
Isn't it pretty? I will pass this one off to all of the blogs I follow. I wouldn't be following you if you didn't leave a little sunshine to my day!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I am working today so will be unavailable to reply to your comments. I hope you all have a wonderful day!
