Yes. You read correctly. Super Bowl Sunday.
To the secularists, the Superbowl is, indeed, a sacred event.
Think about it:
The Holy Trinity includes the Coach, the Quarterback and the GM.
The only way to the "Big Game" is through the Quarterback.
The "Big Game", the Super Bowl if you will, is the sports fan version of nirvana; heaven.
The stadium is the almighty altar at which teams are worshiped and glorified.
The individual teams are the varying denominations which promise that their path to the Super Bowl is the only path. All other paths are "flawed".
The team's Defensive Line are, literally, the Guardian Angels.
What about the Offense? They are the Charismatic Evangelicals proclaiming their team's "gospel" towards the Red Zone.
The Cheerleaders? The Woman Religious, of course.
How about the Sportscasters? They are the Clergy, announcing the play by play action to the faithful.
The Faithful Fans are, naturally, the Congregation whipped into a frenzy of undying adoration of their chosen team.
The jerseys, t-shirts and caps worn by the fans in addition to the commercials and the half-time show have all become sacramentals.
I apologize if I have inadvertently offended anyone with this irreverent post. This is what happens when a Sacred Sunday post wasn't drafted ahead of time. I hope you enjoyed the irony that was the intent of this post. In the meantime:
Go Colts!
Go Saints!

Great post. I hope it's a good game as well but I'm rootin' for The Saints :) You are very clever in this being a sacred event :) Have a wonderful Superbowl Sunday :)
We are very faithful but we also are football fans. We believe we can be both. I love your post and read it to my husband. You are very clever.
HA! Great connections....Oh Happy Day!
I think the tie-in is cute!!!
I think it was funny. But you know it takes a lot to offend me. :)
Love it! So true..
Fabulously clever! Especially considering "The Saints" will be playing.
I watch a lot more college football than pro football, but I LOVE the superbowl. We'll be watching!!
Really true!
Hope your day is a good one so far
Betty xx
Enjoy your Sunday!
Great take on the Superbowl. No wonder my husband feels so holier than thou today.
The Simple Things Challenge
Hey, irreverent, perhaps. But it was true and good. so it's PERFECT!
have a great day!
Very clever! Enjoy your day!
ha. loved it...there is a lot of prayer too if your team is close at the end...lol. hope it is a good game.
You know, I've always heard that Americans are very serious about football.
I'm cheering for the Saints. Not because know anything about football but because I've heard they've never won a Superbowl.
What a cool post! I hope it's OK if I eat hot wings in church.
We don't do Super Bowl in our house especially when hubs is not here...no I am not a football fan.I will have to wait for the Stanley Cup finals to get into the game.
Happy Super Bowl Sunday!
I have to confess, until I read this I had completely forgotten today is Super Bowl Sunday, and who is playing. I grew up in a house of brothers and none of them were into sports, neither is my husband or any of my close guy friends. Instead of a SB party today I went shopping :)
Great post. Loved it. Well, this is really exciting. May the best team win. Though, I don't appreciate sports much, these should be interesting!
Have a nice day...:)
I loved this! And I love football!
