Ah…expectations
Give rise to disappointments
Acceptance is key
Haiku Wednesday is always a joy to participate in. This week’s theme was ANTICIPATION. I equate anticipation with expectations. When I EXPECT something, I am bound to get hurt, or upset that things don’t quite go the way I had envisioned. In my spiritual quest I have found to live in the reality of the here and now. To accept people and situations for whom and they are, not what I want them to be. It truly is freeing.

How true!

That's a very Buddhist way of looking at things, from as much as I understand about Buddhism. Peace to you, Bodhisattva :)
So that's the key? Looks like I'm staying locked out.
sage advice, inspiring haiku =)
nice...i agree with your philosophy...expectations have their place...but acceptance is key
I don't get into as much trouble with expectations as I do with holding on to wished-for outcomes. It's a subtle difference & it's definitely my Achilles heel.
Couldn't agree more. Your level of serenity is inversely proportionate to your level of expectation.
That's why my poem is the only happy expectation that comes true at work.
If I anticipate I usually just wait and see what's showing up. Like you said, acceptance. But it takes a deal of learning to accept a few things. My mind is straying toward what St. Francis of Assisi said about accepting things... I am seeing the beauty of haiku in your composition. What can take hundreds of pages in a book is all done in three lines. Thanks for dropping by my nook. I appreciate it.
I'm anticipating a 55 from you...
Some Day...:p
in almost all things acceptance is the key to meeting life and all it has to offer! Polly it is good to see you back at Jenn's Wednesday haiku!
Yes we must accept there will be disappointments...but bless the times our expectations are met :)
You are profound.
A great haiku.
Accepting disappointment, learning and moving on is the key to a happy life.
I have the Serenity Prayer posted in my bathroom, right by the mirror. The "acceptance" in your haiku hit home for me! My 1st time here, 5th!

So, are we to expect nothing? In his novel Remembrance Rock, Carl Sandburg has one of the characters say, "Blessed are they who expect nothing, for they shall not be disappointed." Pragmatic, I suppose, but rather a dull way to live as well. As one of my colleagues says: "Risk the adventure, and howl!"
