Microfiction Monday and other Musings

Worn
faded
crying out in vain
 “Oh please
just sit upon my lap,
twirl me about.
I promise you
the warmth of my love
& the beauty
of this world”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Isn't that just like life? As we age there is the possibility for some to head towards that place of self pity, of doubt: where one may easily feel "worn out" and unappreciated. But God knows that by turning this mindset around to one not of "what's in it for me" but to one of "how can I be of service to others" our lives can be so enriched indeed.
Thank you Grandma Goulash for keeping this meme alive!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Jayhawks,

You were just like the ugly stepsisters who show up to the ball only to be upstaged and stunned by the mesmerizing beautiful young Cinderella (VCU Rams) and the way she waltzed through the big dance that is March Madness.

Stunned as well,
1984 KU Alum aka 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Spring,
Thank you for making an appearance last week and showing us the promise of the season to come. But why did you have to leave so soon? Was it something we said or did? Please come back at your earliest convenience. You are missed.
Drearily,
A chilly 5th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Laundry,

Is there any possible way you could fold yourself today? I'd really appreciate it.

Lazily,
A slothful 5th

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I will be at Starbucks this evening between 6:45 ad 8:15. If any of my Facebook friends are out there and would like to play, let's plan on getting together and writing another FB tale for Tuesday. Always a good time. Now I am off to go think of a prompt. Make it a great day.
I'm just the kind of girl that could really make a chair happy. I'll get my book and blankie!
I thought the chair should really be turned to face the sea. I think I'd be perched on the arm just so I could see the view!
On the topic of laundry - I don't mind folding, it's the ironing I can't stand!
Beautiful poetry! It's a reminder to all of us that as we age we must watch out for self-pity and look for ways to be of service to others.
Have a wonderful week!
Your poem makes me want to sit in the poor lonely chair. ~ Calico Contemplations
Such a lonely chair, how did you know?
My first thought was that old chair needs to be replaced. Now I'm thinking it deserves a place of honor. Nicely done.
Thanks for being a participant in Succinctly Yours.
Twirling with my arms outstretched in the middle of my livingroom is many times the perfect medicine for when my daubers are heading south. And, do tell, spinning in a chair would definitely be a nice trade off, every now and again. Great SY take, indeed!
P.S. Was it intentional? That the other part of this stopby can be likened to a Jimmy Fallon's Thank You Note segment? (<--cLiCkY-cLiCkY!) It sooo works for me!
Nice touch with this. I like your explanation and the reminder of being of service to others, no matter our condition. Well done.
Your microfiction was superb!
I didn't know that you were the one who made spring go away! I hope it comes back to us soon.
I will try to be available for FB story time!
I love your attitude! It should be service not self pity. You're right.
Thank you for your inspiring piece. When the chair said, 'twirl me about,' it made me think how often we sit facing the wrong way in life; when their a lovely view in store if we would only twirl around...
Twirl me about? What an invitation! LOL
We had a twirling chair just like that growing up (but not the marvelous view).
Hope you're week is good and that the laundry fairy arrives soon.
Cheers, jj
was it fun at Starbucks? I'd a love to have been there.
And guess what?? My laundry folded itself today, my dishes cleaned themselves, and the broom ran away with the mop -- but after the floors were spic and span.
The chair still has a lot to give, and still lively through your poem..
I'm behind (as usual)...but I put in a request for Spring, too. I think she must be screening her calls or something because she's obviously ignoring me. If you get her attention, could you please send her this way, as well??? I'll do the same!!!
