Flash Friday 55: Forbidden Nectar

Sipping the forbidden nectar...

hoping to counter the pain

approaching the very far edges

of consciousness…

drowning the hurt and the fear

into sweet amnesiac oblivion.

Unfortunately, when arising each morning,

the pain remains, accompanied by remorse and regret.

Maybe today will be the day...

finding and fighting for the way

towards truth and wholeness.

I am participating in Flash Friday 55. This weekly meme is brought to you by G-Man, over at Mr. Know it All. The object is to write a story or prose in exactly 55 words. Come join us and link your 55 in Mr. Know it All's comment section. See you there!

Love your prose my dear. Sadly a true commentary - how far do you need to go to run from the pain???

mine is up here

I just can't imagine doing this in 55 words. All of you who do this are simply wonderful and brilliant.

This resembles an anthem of the intoxicated: by drugs or any other "imagined" feeling, I can't say.

Joy always,
Susan

You captured that type of pain so well. The line "sweet amnesiac oblivion" is really powerful. Well done, Polly.

You really captured the dilemma of the addicted. There is no escape in a bottle, any kind of bottle. Tomorrow always comes. Well done.

Ooh southern guilt - pass me the red-eye hidden in the Bible. Sadly, my evil employer expects me to work occasionally for my wages and this week has meant a whole lot of lobbying, prize-giving, speech-making, and back-room politicking - oh and lots of trains and planes. So thanks for dropping by and the comments. I would add that the story has no reference to anyone I know - living or dead. And that mean my wife...because she reads the blog.
