Why is it difficult to find time to just be…

To live in the moment…to appreciate the here and now?

Instead we dwell upon past hurts, resentments;

we long for a future when, surely, everything will be better.

We allow the “busy”ness of life to be our excuse.

Alas! I must go…carpools and chores await!

Mumble, mumble, yawn.

“Remember? It’s your 1^st day of school!”

“Hey Mom, do you have to go into work?”

“Yes sweetie, I do. It’s all planned out: Daddy will take you to school and Brandon’s mom will pick you up. I bet there’ll even be treats involved!”

“Oh, Okay!”

Flash Friday 55: The Blame Game

Her aging, yellowed skin matches the color of the newspaper clipping she holds in her trembling hands. Ancient wounds feel fresh and raw. Why does she torment herself so? Studying the old obituary she remembers the accusation: “It’s all your fault!” It wasn’t, but she can’t make herself believe otherwise.  Her internal war rages on.

Flash Friday 55: Out of the Closet

Pressure steadily rises.

Suddenly, without warning, the closet doors burst forth.

Its contents spew across the floor, wreaking havoc within its wake.

Hundreds of stuffed animals come scurrying out

of their secret hiding place (beneath the bed).

Sigh.

There's no putting it off.

Looks like another job for Super Mommy

and her incredible side kick, Munchie Boy!

Flash Friday 55: Forbidden Nectar

Sipping the forbidden nectar...

hoping to counter the pain

approaching the very far edges

of consciousness…


drowning the hurt and the fear

into sweet amnesiac oblivion.


Unfortunately, when arising each morning,

the pain remains, accompanied by remorse and regret.


Maybe today will be the day...

finding and fighting for the way

towards truth and wholeness.

I am mortified at the filth.

Orange bugs scurry about.

I try to kill them.

Nasty little creatures, they are.

They hide and are terribly difficult to find in the shag carpet.

I know the upstairs is filthy as well.

I wonder if there is time to clean up before guests arrive.

I am worried.

The tell-tell signs of summer:
The early morning cacophony of birdsong...
Hot and steamy Carolina days...
The ice cream truck serenading its way down the street...
The laughter of children waving their dollars for a treat...
The smell of barbecue permeating from backyard oases...
And the annual ritual of Munchie Boy's summer "buzz cut".

Flash Friday 55: Working Hard

I worked so terribly hard.
I was spinning my wheels.
Never did I get to the scheduled therapies
as every type of emergency situation imaginable
kept me from my appointed rounds.
Shear exhaustion took hold of me.
It's a darn shame I had to wake up
and get ready for work in the real world!

Flash Friday 55: My Marinade

(Since I am out of town I went lazy and scheduled one of my favorite marinade recipes to post for you to enjoy on this Flash Friday 55. You will note that I do not measure...)

Olive oil

Balsamic vinegar

Lemon juice

Sugar

Crushed garlic cloves

Finely chopped onion

Fresh basil, oregano, rosemary and thyme

A little kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

Add as marinade to chicken or beef

Light the coals

Or start the grill

Then grill to perfection

Serve with roasted veggies

A perfectly easy and tasty meal
