Alphabe-Thursday: The Letter Y

Yonder 'neath the Yellow pine

Sits the Youth with his makeshift shrine.

Young, carefree and full of life?

No, rather his days are filled with strife.

Yearning for a savior to Yank him away

From the Yelling and abuse that comes his way.

Listening to the chorus of Yellowbird's song

Wondering what it was that he did wrong.

Yelping from the pain of his tears

The Youngest decides to face his fears.

So upon the sacrificial altar he sets

His father's gin and his mom's cigarettes.

Oh Polly, how I love this. My Best has two adopted children. This so gives them a voice. THANKS.

Yes, you did it again. What a tough life for a young child!

Polly:

You manage all the letters tactfully. The rhyme, the rhyme. While it did flow ta da ta da ta da, the fourth line the tune was not sitting well.

I sang this. Can you believe that?

Joy and love,
Susan

So much truth in this one...I simply hate domestic violence, the yelling the fighting....but it is real and needs to be addressed...bkm

I was wondering what you were going to write for Y, so I am stopping here, even though I should be looking at the odd numbered posts!
What a beautiful poem about neglected children.

It haunts.

Great poem, Polly! It's sad but it's also the reality for some children out there.

I love the picture!

Your poem, artfully done, breaks my heart. So many adopted children, including my own, never totally recover from their early trauma.

Polly.

Almost speechless.

Teary eyed.

It's so ironic that you can tell the picture is your son...and not "that child" but your words convey so much sadness that I can easily superimpose that vision onto the photo.

What an intense stop on our little journey through Alphabe-Thursday's letter "Y"!

Thank you.

You humble me.

A+
