Monday Musings-February 8, 2010

Dear New Orleans Saints,

Who Dat?!!! Game well played. You deserved the win. Congratulations! Oh, and Drew? If you are ever searching for another team I do believe we have a QB position opening up.

Just another football fan,

Mrs. Sister

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Indianapolis Colts,
I guess it just wasn't your turn to shine in the spotlight. Although I was semi-sort of rooting for you I still enjoyed the game. Even being on the losing end you just gotta love a good Cinderella story and fairy tale ending. Better luck next year.
So sorry the season's over,
Mrs. Sister
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Super Bowl Commercials,

Yawn!

That had to be the worst batch of commercials EVER for a Super Bowl. I think I may have chuckled once or, at most, twice but I couldn't even begin to tell you at which ad. The Bud Light ads were painfully annoying. Honestly, I can't recall any others. That's sad when advertisers shell out the mega millions for a coveted Super Bowl spot.

Disappointed,

Mrs. Sister

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Half Time Entertainment Committee and The Who,
To steal paraphrase what a good friend of mine wrote on Facebook: "Talking about my DEgeneration"! Witnessing a couple of gramps attempting to seriously sing about "Teenage Wasteland" was painful to say the least. "Who are You"? Certainly not The Who I grew up with and adored.
Shaking my head in disbelief,
Mrs. Sister
You did it! You completed your very 1st marathon in a pretty decent time of 4:42. We continue to be amazed at your determination and perseverance. You went about setting your goals and have achieved each and every one of them. You are an inspiration and motivation for all of us. Congratulations!
Your friend,
Polly
I Won!
Kimberly, from Terra Del Sol had a very unique giveaway featuring actual works of art. I had my choice of 3 items. I'm having a difficult time choosing but am close to choosing the antique advertisement:
Ms. Bibi, at From Misery to Happiness..., is at it again! She has awarded me with a very special acknowledgement.
Isn't it PERFECT? I love it and will proudly display it in my Achievements slide show. Thank you, Bibi! You're such a good friend! (She also "tagged" me a little while back but I'm saving that for another day) If you are ever searching for a new blog to follow and haven't paid a visit to Bibi, I suggest definitely checking out her blog
That's it for today. Daisy wants out and then I have to wake up the big kiddo as it's time to seize the day. Make it a good Monday, everyone!
I'm not quite ready to say "game well played" to the Saints. I'm still mourning the Colts' loss. It was a heartbreaker for the football fans in this house.
The commercials? I'm with you! Not nearly as entertaining as in years past. Letterman, Oprah and Leno watching the game was good for a chuckle.
The Who? Almost as current as when Paul McCartney did the half-time show. I have nothing against either of them, but couldn't we see someone just a little bit more current? Are we still being punished for Justin and Janet?
Luis rocks!
As you know, Polly, I am not a football fan, so I'll limit my comments about last night to the peripherals like the commercials and The Who.
Some of the commercials were a bit funny--but if I were a man, I would have been insulted...in commercial after commercial they were portrayed like dim wits. I tried asking my son and husband if they were offended, but they were laughing too hard. Hmmm...
I have seen a fair amount of Who-bashing on facebook. I am young enough not to have known them in their prime and have personal attachments, but old enough not to just freak out because there's old people singing instead of hot twenty-somethings. From that perspective, So from that perspective I can say they had a great light show and at least they didn't embarrass themselves like the spectacle Chicage made of themselves when they appeared at Brian Boitano's ice skating shin dig a few weeks ago.
I missed the whole thing! I'm sort of glad the Saints won, I guess. Good for them!
That vintage ad is very cute. Congrats!
I'm with you on the commercials. I didn't find them funny or entertaining, and what a waste of money. That money could have been donated to like........feed the children? Or Haiti? Television Marketing has become a trillion dollar pit.
And that's my Monday morning comment.
By the way, I like the style of your posts! :)
I was mostly rooting for Colts. But Jonathan was rooting for the Saints all night. He's very happy with the outcome.
I find it interesting that Brett and Peyton lost out on the Super Bowl by interceptions...the two best QB ever.
I know lots of people were sore over the Colts' loss, but I just wish everyone could be happy for Saints and New Orleans. If you had been there---if you had family/friends there---if you had seen photos (I have featured many on my blog)---if you had LIVED/BEEN there, then you would rejoice with the city and be happy for them. They played well and this win is so much bigger than just football/Superbowl/etc...it means things are finally looking up for the forgotten city!
even though peyton manning is my boyfriend (i think he's so funny!) i was glad the saints won. and those commercials were definitely boo!
i think we watched about two minutes of half time and changed the channel...
okay, I am with you on the Who. I was quite confused... and sad. Who are those guys? They could barely lift their arms to rally the fans.
YEAH!!! Congrats to the Saints. WAY TO GO!!! Did you happen to see Drew and his son after the game? It was the best scene of all :) I love all of these letters but the two I must comment on are the Commercials which were just crappy all the way through. Nothing spectacular, although I did like Betty Whites and the Dorito's ad. And the Entertianment. I thought I was the only one that didn't care for those old men up there on stage. I grew up with them as well and please just let me retain that image. Thank goodness the game was one of the best in recent memory :)
Thanks Polly for all of your support throughout this process of mine, of becoming a marathoner. I'm very grateful to you for your support, and for spreading the news here on your blog to your blog readers.
And thanks to Polly's blog readers for your kind words. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something. Set your mind to it, reach deep down inside and go for it. You'd be surprised what you can be capable of.
I wanted the Saints to win because I like their uniforms better.
I thought you would appreciate the Saints winning simply for their namesake ;)
I was sad to see The Who as "who has beens" - but we must admit, there would be no interesting CSI show intros without them!
They should set an age limit for rock bands! LOL! Maybe they should change their name to "The What"
