Warning: The following prose may be disturbing to some.
It is not intended to be autobiographical.
I must admit to being a bit perplexed.
How it came to be is really quite odd.
This poem just sort of "wrote itself" the other day
after I finished with my meditation and prayers.
I guess it's a story, a voice, that needed to be heard.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wary is the Winsome one
for Wronged by Wicked deeds he's done.
The Wounds she bears are hidden deep
Within her soul Where secrets keep.
He Wields his power, Wrenching her Wrist.
She Writhes beneath his clenching fist.
He Whispers, he Wheedles With Whiskey breath.
Weeping and Weary she Wishes for death.
Hopes Wither, as she Wails With Woe.
After the Wrath there's no place to go.
For trapped in this Wretched World is she.
It's her Word against his...and she's only three.
oh heck...i will glad give him a talking to...nice write, gald you shared it...
Power prose, Polly! You've described the situation of many people I know who are going through this..To me, it's not disturbing in anyway, and it's REAL life for some..
Wow! I am impressed an not worthy!!!
Fabulous W.
I don't want to even think about your topic but the poem is good. I'm grateful for the people who do listen and try to make things right for little suffering children.
If I'd been consulted about the building of the world, I'd have put more justice in it.
Wherever it came from, it was something that needed to be said. You did that quite eloquently.
Isn't it a shame that this is happening to our cildren. You're speaking for those that are hurting.
It is a chilling thought, however, a very sad reality of what happens to some....
Well said using the "right" and accurate words!
Thanks, Polly for sharing!
Oh that sweet, sweet child.
As i writer, I am very familiar with the unbidden appearance of a "character" with a story to be told. It hasn't happened in a long time. I miss it. On one hand, I am glad your character is fictional, but on another, I know she's not. And that's the power of fiction.
As a forensic nurse, a sexual assault nurse examiner, for the city and county of San Francisco, for the past 21 years ( my job ended 15 months ago in massive budget cuts to Public Health ), I've heard hundreds of stories just like that. I was also a child interviewer, in addition to doing adult rape exams, and it was heart wrenching to hear some of their stories - although it was imperative that we maintain our objectivity during these videotaped interviews which might go to court.
I believe anything and nothing surpises me. I've written poetry and prose with similar themes.
Excellent job!
At 65, I've done it! My poetry book - Life's Journey by Carmen Henesy - is out on Amazon!
( Poems about the things that have been important to me in my journey through life, some humorous, some sad, some that may have meaning to you as well )
that is very powerful my friend....and as someone who grew up that way it speaks volumes to me....
thank you for sharing
Powerfully done, Polly. Definitely a story that needs to get out. Unfortunately, that story isn't fiction for so many.
I am so glad this didn't happen to you. It is horrible it has happened to others.
Polly, this is chilling and powerful. I continue to be amazed and in awe of your talent. I don't think I've ever read anything about this topic that was so elquently written. ~ Sarah
wow, powerful poem TFS :D
Your poem was beautiful, despite the topic, it gave me goosebumps. Well done!
Wow Wonderfully written with words which were written with W!!
Disturbing and unsettling poem, but nicely done.
=)
this is well written and so brutal.
Wow! What a powerful poem. I thought it was grown woman. Wow. Amazing.
:( well written, heartrendingly realistic!
aww, that is so sad..and the saddest part is for so many little ones it is real life.....breaks my heart.
Whoa! What a message in such few words. I'm glad you started with the disclaimer. From reading others' comments, it's a subject that many of your readers are familiar with. Nice job on a very sad subject.
W...almost to the end of the ol' alphabet. What's next?
Oh. I see you've added a picture of you in your Sexy little black dress to your profile. A great photo. And I love the pearls!
That is a very disturbing poem--but extremely well-done. I have to go bang my head on something now. Excuse me...
Very well written. You were able to express the fear and hopelessness so well. This is definitely a voice that needed to be heard. Kathy
You're a very good writer. I was touched by what your wrote.
Oh God! the story was sad enough--before the ending, a surprise to me.
I like whoever wrote that if they were constructing the world, they would have put more justice in it. YEAH!
Thanks for letting me realize it is not all peace and happiness out there
Strong powerful words that tell someone's sad story. Thanks for sharing it..
I think that's what makes a good poet. Sometimes the prose comes from somewhere outside of themselves. This was really excellent. It makes me think of all the little kids who have been mistreated in their life. This was very, very good. Great poetry.
Thank you for saying this isn't auto-biographical.
It was incredibly powerful. I know this plight. And many in it.
And the lovely rhyme of your words is really offset but the horror of the subject.
I always love my stop here.
You make me think. You make me weep. You make me wonder.
A+
this was so disturbing ... and i'm glad to here it wasnt autobiograhical ... but jeez ... well done again ...
excellent skill of using so many w-words in a poetry form, which i yet to grasp.
i am glad you warned me up front that it was going to be disturbing. What a powerful poem. Excellent as always.
