The basement was cold
Barefoot, I stepped
onto the damp, dusty, dirt floor
There she was
back by the washing machines
in the darkened corner
hanging dolls up to dry

I'm participating in Monkey Man's "Sunday 160" where the point is to write a piece in exactly 160 characters (spaces included). This week I've decided to use the platform to document a snippet of a dream I had last summer.

It sounds as if it might be the end of a nightmare. Nicely written.
It is a shame, but your picture didn't show.

ok i cant see the picture...
but the words conjure some pretty scary images...esp the doing of laundry...smiles.
At first I didn't know what to think. Was this creepy as in Blair Witch creepy? Or just a little girl giving her dollies a bath and hanging them up to dry like mommy hangs clothes out on a line? Dreams can be so weird and hard to decipher. Either way basements scare the hell out of me! :)~Ames
Not getting the picture, either. But the dream was very vivid! And I'm going with creepy...
This gave me a chill!
I love this 160 even though the photo didn't post. I like being able to imagine the scene. Thanks for playing.
what is it?
very interesting descriptions.
You have a way with words. I love this and other of your posts below. I hope you have a wonderful day. Blessings...Mary
Thanks for the comments. I'm sorry the photo didn't post and I'm unable to manage my blog at work. I will take it as a sign that it is not needed and one should use their own imagination. That's what I like about my dreams...the symbols carry different meanings for different people. Earlier in this dream the woman hanging the dolls magically walked through a wall beckoning me to follow. Of course I couldn't so she conjured up steps for me to descend. (Basement = subconcious)
Looking for Mom?
First, the basement.. then, dolls!!!
Brr... all in all, a pretty chilling set of images...
All put so well in a 160 though!!
Kudos..
Sometimes a dream is all in the interpretation. The fact that you remembered it so well is a statement in and of itself. Really vivid dreams sometimes freak me out, and this one sounds like it had some interesting meanings behind it for you.
I like the verse. It leaves room for varied interpretations. For me a photo is not necessary...
Here is my Sunday 160: <a href="http://firmlyrooted.blogspot.com/2011/02/demise.html>demise</a>
