Prelude:
It felt just like
a cold January night
unaware the journey
was soon to begin.
For June bugs froze
in mid air flight
between sips of wine
and jiggers of daddy’s gin
~~~~~~~~~~
Jaded eyes now seeking,
piercing through the fog
over steamy cups
of jasmine tea.
Memories, though jaundiced,
have been jogged…
jostled and jolted
into reality
At this juncture,
praying hard not to fail
juggling, struggling,
with choice that's made
to step off the jagged,
junk strewn trail
and into light
of the jewel toned glade
~~~~~~~~~~
Post-Script
The June bugs have found
their voice at last
warmed by embrace of a brand new day.
No fearing, no regretting
the remorseful past.
Simply finding joy in jubilant song.
It truly is better this way.

I will be working all weekend so may not be able to comment on all the wonderful Alphabet/Flash Friday entries. I shall return on Monday. Oh, and for the record, my Flash Friday 55 contribution are stanzas 2 and 3 of the poem above.

This is one of your best, I think.
Loved it.
=)
I don't know if I've ever seen a june bug but that was brilliant as ever !
Have a great weekend Polly!
I am laughing, hysterically, at the thought of June bugs, careening though a cold winters night, oblivious of the temperatures, snockered on spirits. What a way to go. Brilliant poetry.
sounds like a long journey that ended well, great use of J words
Gorgeous writing. A joy to read. Thanks
I kind of feel like those June bugs with winter settling in, I've been kind of running around, fueled by wine, trying to hold on to summer...
just remarkable!
That was awesome! Now are those June bugs the gigantic things of which I'm thinking?
Its amazing to me that you can find so many j words and weave them into such a great poem!
I love this, especially that I get to look forward to warmth! Maybe I should warm myself with some wine.
very nice polly...your pre and post scripts tie well and the meat in the middle...tight write...
Polly, you are one gifted woman!!!!
Wow...just wow!! So rhythmic are your words, and so rich.
My 55 is posted!! Here is the link for you.
Nice 55(+), ya cheater! (LOL!)
Wow. This was fabulous. Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by my 55.
this is one of your best for sure! this was totally wonderful!
I'm not sure about this one Pollyanna.
It has more than a 55 'feel' to it.
But since I'm not a strict host, and I'm sure you can shoot me if I piss you off, I'll let it slide.
Thanks for playing, (even though it appears that Flash 55 was not your 1st choice)and have a Kick Ass Week-End
Very nice 55. Thank you.
I'm off to google June bugs to see what one looks like.
Cheers, jj
Sheer perfection. I agree with Brian 100%.
Wonderful poem! Love how you used all those J words to create such
thought provoking verses.
I feel much like your June bugs these days...hoping my journey ends as well as theirs!
Hope your weekend is going well at work. See you next week!
Brilliant. My new favorite! I've read it four times now and find more and more each time. Sounds like a painful journey is producing some amazing blessings! I'm smiling with you in victory!
perhaps it is we who are the June bugs....
That sounded like a bug bitten journey.. quite a poignant read! Made me actually think of who is the bug and who is the bitten here!! Very well written!!
I'm standing in the jewel toned glade cheering you on...for your writing, for the way you think, for sharing your heart with us.
You are a joy to visit every single week.
Thank you for being such an important part of Alphabe-Thursday!
A+
hmmm interesting, perhaps more here than initially meets the eye, a decicion, a journey... perhaps one I can relate to
I saw something in this.
to those coming over from One Shot Wednesday, I had written this a few weeks back and it appears to have been one that elicited much commentary. I hope it is worthy for submission to this weekly meme.
Coming here from One Shot, let me just say, it's more than worth, no worries.
Rather like the form: a poem with prologue and epilogue, a story and a journey that makes for quite the read. Good rhythm, some interesting sense of image in there, and the word play, from January to June, jiggers to jaded, jasmine, jostled...delightful usage, and a good one all around for the letter J.
Go June bugs! Nice OS.
Well written with fine word choices. The poetic postscript was a very nice touch to add. Have a great Christmas!
Oh yes, those June bugs. I remember them well. The misdirected flight, the occasional crunch under my feet. Thanks for bringing a memory back to the surface in a beautifully written way.
i am glad you submitted this to one shot...was a very well written poem indeed...i loved the breaks as well..but for me the rhyme worked superbly...all the best Pete
not sure if my comment just took but in case it didnt i am glad you shared this with one shot...i liked the breaks and the rhyme really worked for me..all the best pete
Jolly good One Shot, Polly!
Great imagery, great flow, fun work.
Jumpin Jehosophat and all that jazz....that's a lot of J's!
