Friday Follies

Dear Weatherman,

What'sup? I went to bed last night fully expecting to wake up to snow and ice. What happened? The roads are completely clear, not even a dusting of frost upon the ground. This homeschooling momma was really hoping to have an excuse to have a "snow day". I could have used the extra time to sleep in, meal prep for the dinner I'm expected to deliver to our priests, or just relax with a long soak in the tub. Now it looks like Math, Spelling, Language Arts, Literature, History, and Science. Darn.

Disappointedly yours,

Mrs. Sister

Dear Tooth Fairy,

Thank you for making my son's morning. 2 teeth in as many weeks. And only his 3rd tooth to come out, ever. Yes, he's 11 and should be cutting his 12 year molars soon but won't be. You see, the poor kid is missing 9 adult tooth buds. That means he needs to keep his baby teeth as long as possible as there is nothing to take it's place once it falls out. Which also means he'll have to deal with a "gappy" smile until he finishes growing. At that point Mr. Sister and I will have the joy of investing in implants! (Can anyone say 2nd mortgage?)

Also, you're welcome. I saved your hiney! Munchie Boy was going to set a trap for you (one of those motion detector alarm spy gear type of contraptions). I had to tell him about that time when I was little. Come on now, you remember, don't you? When I set up a bunch of tin cans around the bed, at the door and window. You decided to teach me a lesson...you didn't take my tooth or leave me any money. Instead I got that letter of reprimand from you. The next night I cleared the room, left my tooth out in the open and you came! After I told Munch about about this he promptly removed his trap.

Always yours,

Mrs. Sister

Dear Black Beauty (aka Kitchen Aid),

You are undeniably, totally awesome! When I decided to make 3 loaves of my Nana's banana bread you didn't even flinch! Within 5 minutes everything was mixed and poured into the loaf pans! Wow! This could pose a wee problem, though. I'll be mixing up all kinds of treats (cookies, cakes, breads) and that can't be good on the waist line! Oh well. I think we can deal with it.

Forever your fan and biggest admirer,

Mrs. Sister

Nana's Banana Bread

(isn't she a beauty?)
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs
1 tbsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 3 tbsp. hot water
1/4 tsp. salt
2 cups flour, divided
2 mashed ripe bananas
(optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts)

Mix sugar, butter, eggs, and dissolved soda. Add 1 cup flour and beat. Add bananas and beat, Add rest of flour and mix well. Bake in a 350 oven for about an hour (until toothpick inserted in center comes clean). This is enough batter for one big loaf.

(mmmmmmmmm)

Slice while warm and top with a pat of real butter. Yummy!  Enjoy.

My kids are totally sad that there is no ice on the roads. It's insanely cold, but no ice, no snow, no nothing, just cold. I live in Texas so I don't have to deal with the cold.

so you don't want me to tell you that up here in Northwest Ohio we have cancelled school do you??

I am having a case of jealousy here because Black Beauty is GORGEOUS! So sleek, so shiney *sigh* Nana's bread sounds delish and easy - I will have to try it out this weekend with my old hand held ;o)

Have a blessed day dear!

My youngest daughter is nine and has never seen snow. We wanted it so badly, and like ya'll nothing. Well a little rain, but above freezing temps, now the rain is gone and the temps are falling. Go figure. Have a blessed day and try to stay warm.

Everytime I read about your Black Beauty I get jealous and there is little tear forming in the corner of my eye....will I ever see the day when "my" Red Beauty arrives at my doorstep? Well, Valentine's Day is coming, so is Mother's Day and my birthday and what the heck let's throw in the St. Patrick's Day....just to make sure.

I love the Tooth Fairy story.

I just clicked over from your comment on "My Life, My Thoughts" and your comment about "Doctor Who." I only bring it up because I just did a big post today about The Doctor right here.

I hope you enjoy it!

Good news for you and Black Beauty! The house of My Good Babushka was recently certified as an official repository of surplus baked gooderies. Um, just don't check with the county because they are slow with filing paperwork ;)

Do you follow shortmama? She does a Letters Of Intention linky thing on Thursdays. You should hook up. Your letters are always good!

PS You can have some of our snow and the ice, too.

PPS I'll send my kids with the weather. They will keep your son company.

I love my KitchenAid too. It's probably in use 2-3 times a week around here :-)

And I think you are the only person in the country disappointed they didn't get more snow!

i've been praying for you and your family. I hope all is well.

I tell you... you all have it lucky to live where you get such things as snow days... around here we go to school when school is in session, and get a break when there is time for such things.

Of course, here in California, soon we shall be paying for our schools twice over to get decent public education... as it goes...

Cute post! I have that Kitchen Aid. It is a dangerous, dangerous weapon. Have you ever made french bread in it? It is a recipe you leave in the mixing bowl and keep mixing it up again with your dough hook. I'm a new follower, too!

I love my KitchenAide too. My introduction to KitchenAide was when I baked for a Greek deli and I make brownies, cheese cakes and baklava everyday. It was a monster. I think I made five cheese cakes in one batch (one for each of the store locations).

Your Tooth Fairy story reminded me of the day the kids tried to catch a Leprechaun. After I found them in the basement putting together a trap, I went in search of those chocolate candies that look like coins and a Leprechaun to put in the trap. The kids were so excited the next morning.
