Flash Friday 55: Child's Nightmare

Nightmares haunted her…
She needed a trusted adult,
Unfortunately, those in her life were anything but.
What about others?
The lifeguard?  Too busy working her whistle.
The friendly old lady next door?  Hard of hearing.
The babysitter retaliated,
imprisoning her within confines
of a grubby, grimy playpen.
She vowed then, someday, somehow, she would escape.

I am participating in Flash Friday 55, a meme hosted by our very own Mr. Know it All (aka G-Man). The purpose is to write a story or prose in exactly 55 words, no more, no less. Care to join the fun? Just link up in G-Man's comment section.

What a dark 55. Certainly gives one something to think about.

So sad when a child has to look far from home to find comfort.

This was great! It sounds like the beginning of a most excellent Novel!
Loved your 55, you rock the Planet baby. Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End...G

Shouldn't you have to pass a test to have kids? Oh wait. That's right ANYONE can have a child. Some shouldn't. Great 55.

Grubby, grimy playpen -- yucky.

Imagine how easy everything else would be if she could survive that.

Lucky me for having a lot of very hands-on grandparents, aunts and uncles, not to mention a wonderful husband to help raise my boy.

I watched Tideland last night, and it made me think of a lot of your themes.

Funny how playpens and prison cells both have bars.

It seemed like more than 55 words because it said so much. Nice job!

I've always had very vivid dreams. Some good, some bad, but all seem very real.

Great images. Yes, sad, as the others have said, but she has a voice now. Hoping her healing journey continues!

Pretty harrowing tale. We all do escape sooner or later, in one way or another, the lucky among us find the light eventually, and hopefully while still in this earthly realm.
