A Flash Friday 55 Offering: The Hunger

startled awake
by creak, creak, creaking
of stair boards ‘neath a heavy weight

dreading sound
of feet slowly creep, creep, creeping
up steps, nearing closer

feigning sleep
to squeak, squeak, squeaking
of door yielding entry

eyes squeeze shut
to hot, heavy breaths…
cold, demanding tongue…

rapacious hunger,
incessant , impatient...

So much for sleeping in.

(Daisy, not so patiently waiting)

Haha...I can so relate to this. I have a little 10 pound Yorkie and though he's a good boy, if I want a sleep in, I have to stay up late the night before so that he goes out as late as he can, so, I get a sleep in! LOL
Great 55 :)

Yeah i was getting a bit creeped out too till I saw Daisy. Thank goodness our door can't be opened by a cold nose, or we'd have a pair in bed with us. Great 55.

Loved this, Polly! And could totally relate. My older dog, Riley, is suddenly in the habit of this type of midnight intrusion. Faking sleep never deters him either :)

Ha! I was holding my breath here, Miss Polly, worrying about what was coming next.
