startled awake
by creak, creak, creaking
of stair boards ‘neath a heavy weight
dreading sound
of feet slowly creep, creep, creeping
up steps, nearing closer
feigning sleep
to squeak, squeak, squeaking
of door yielding entry
eyes squeeze shut
to hot, heavy breaths…
cold, demanding tongue…
rapacious hunger,
incessant , impatient...
So much for sleeping in.
(Daisy, not so patiently waiting)

I don't have a pet but I can imagine the scene clearly... nice 55 ~
Happy day ~
Haha...I can so relate to this. I have a little 10 pound Yorkie and though he's a good boy, if I want a sleep in, I have to stay up late the night before so that he goes out as late as he can, so, I get a sleep in! LOL
Great 55 :)
Pollyanna...
You wuz freakin me out Sistah!
Loved your Creaky 55
What a sweet Baby you have.
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
Yeah i was getting a bit creeped out too till I saw Daisy. Thank goodness our door can't be opened by a cold nose, or we'd have a pair in bed with us. Great 55.
What a picture perfect ending! I love this!
Nice use of repetition.
You had me by the throat there for a minute.
lol..and then the cold nose hits your cheek...and you are fully awake...ha fun 55 polly
Loved this, Polly! And could totally relate. My older dog, Riley, is suddenly in the habit of this type of midnight intrusion. Faking sleep never deters him either :)
A rude awakening! LOL
I have cats like that! Great 55,
I'm up here.
Tongue and cheek ... this 55
She has such an innocent face :)
Rofl, sounds like my dog wanting to go out!
Good one! love the sneak and creep;
That is why I have learned to mostly
shut my door!
Ha! I was holding my breath here, Miss Polly, worrying about what was coming next.
Ahhh...
You joke.
Hooray.
Thanks for the smile!
This was fabulous.
Oh, wow! It's my life in 55 words!

Lovely canine twist!
I'll take him if it is a problem.

we have a golden lab and I would be screaming if he did that, because I know where his mouth has been (litter box in the garage) lol terrific
That is why I love cats.... but, alas we have three dogs... good thing I'm able to go back to sleep!
