The Waiting Game

I will not have time to blog today. You see, I had completely forgotten about renewing my driver's license. It expires tomorrow. So I shall queue up, first thing this morning, with everyone else in the same predicament, and commence playing the waiting game. I hope to be able to get out in 5 hours...

(please pray for my sanity and patience)

Flash Friday 55: Are You Ready?

(AP photo from Google Images)

Are you ready for some football?

Preseason follies (fleecing):
where NFL demands
regular ticket prices
for games,
in the grand scheme
of the season,
don’t even matter.

Players risk serious injury
trying to score
coveted title:
NFL pro.

Pity to those cut…
woe to those deemed
practice squad material.

Still we watch…
Pass the peanuts.

I’m telling!

About what?

You peed! Mama said no peeing in the pool!

I didn’t pee IN the pool,
I peed NEXT to it!

Oh gross!

At least I didn’t toot!

Monday Musings: August 22, 2011

Dear Jesus,

Can you find it in your most sacred heart to forgive me? After fighting with you, all weekend long, I finally realized I didn’t need to change you. I needed to change how I approached you. After this epiphany it was smooth sailing from then on. However, it was not my intent to make you look like you have the chicken pox.

Sorrowfully yours,

A contrite 5th

 Dear 2011/2012 School Year,

The kids would like me to request that you please consider delaying your start until after September. Summer doesn’t appear to be in any hurry to go away. (But between you and me, I’m of the sentiment that it is time to get back into a routine.)

Needing her space,

Mama 5th

Dear People of Walmart,

I thank you for allowing me to join your ranks this past Sunday afternoon. It was such fun mingling with the hundreds of stressed out, back to school shoppers like myself. I felt I was with kindred spirits as I dove over several carts to retrieve that last (has to be BLACK) plastic folder required by a certain teacher. Oh, and the way you all stared at me as I was climbing the shelves to reach the last of the dividers on top. Yeah, I’m glad we shared that moment of hilarity. It is awesome that no one bothered to ask if I (the tiny, short, petite, vertically challenged one) required help. Any assistance would have negated the lesson I needed to learn here.

Always,

A procrastinating 5th

PS: Today is Bethany's turn. I guess we'll have another opportunity to party on aisle 6

Dear Carolina Panthers,

It was a disappointing game after a promising start. But what the heck…preseason is the time to cull the herd. I get that. It doesn’t make the loss hurt any less though. Regardless, with my new schedule I should be able to attend more games. I am so looking forward to this new season because, you know, after last year we can’t do any worse.

Still a fan,

Panther lovin’ 5th

PS: Jake, I haven’t forgotten about you

That is all for this installment of Munday Musings. I must be off to hang with my homies...the People of Walmart. Always a good time the day before school starts!

Flash Friday 55: August 19, 2011

my “studio/office” space
is where I’m spending day….
becoming most favored place
where phrases, fabric play

Shall I write of words with lady
about a wedding ring
missing after someone shady,
came to help her clean

Designing, I shall do instead
brainstorming ways to start
transforming ideas within my head
into passable works of art

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Friday came upon me too fast! This is my attempt to please the G-Man, our most gracious host. Now I really must go seize this day since I've spent way too much time on the computer already.
I Now Dream
I now dream
of magical things…
freedom to fly,
soaring to great heights
without wings…
standing my ground
against forces of evil
devoid of wand,
realizing true strength
comes from within…
being acutely aware
of mysterious power
effortlessly generating
life sustaining breaths
when submerged,
caught in currents
under depths
of ocean’s tides.
are these things
truly magical
or are they
seeds of the spirit,
planted, tilled
in soil of soul’s eden
as sun shines light
upon wreckage of past;
casting away shadows
of internal struggles
and lifelong fears,
of shame and
of self will run rampant:
decaying debris,
waste from years
of stinking thinking
becoming compost
for clarity, honesty,
open mindedness,
and willingness
to take root,
sprout forth,
and grow,
harvested
in the mystical,
magical dreams
I now dream
It's been one year, to the day, when I embarked upon a very special journey. Although it was promised (if I did the work), I remain in awe of the spiritual awakening that has become a part of my everyday life. I would like to thank my family and friends for their loving encouragement and support, but most importantly I pray prayers of thanksgiving to my God for it was His divine intervention and grace which led me upon this path. I am truly blessed.
Monday Morning Photo Prompt: The Road Less Traveled
The road less traveled...
often trashed
by those refusing,
to even to consider,
taking that 1st step
upon the path
of one's own
spiritual journey
Saturday Centus/Sunday 160: It's Not Funny!
why does she
laugh out loud...
every minute
of every hour
of every day?
what wickedness,
what cruel curse
is at play?
she’s not laughing?
‘tis hiccups you say?
never mind
As always, the prompt is in GREEN.
Okay...I know, I know...but's it all I could come up with after a 12 hour shift at the hospital. I took the liberty of combining 2 memes into one as tomorrow is another workday for me.
Flash Friday 55: Under Construction
(photo courtesy of Argon One via Google Images)
lost in art…
journey detoured
by color, shape,
of idea forming
breathing shades of gray
until colorful patterns
surface from glimpses,
caught by mind’s eye
heart’s rhythm
guides way
along old, forgotten
roads to creation
emerging soul
flows blood upon
canvas highways
still under construction
Orange barrels
warn unsuspecting
to avoid avenues
not yet paved
Microfiction Muse #19
Overhearing his master mention
“Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”,
Bowser, quite alarmed,
took it seriously & made it his duty
to secure the west wing.
Sunflower Soul
sunflower soul
waxing weary
of false façade,
this make-believe mirth,
while woes are wending,
sorrow sweeping,
vainly through veins…
yes, sunflower souls
indeed have veins
as well as dreams,
desires rooted deeply
within prairie prayers
waiting, wanting, wishing
for courage to be she
sunflower soul swaying
towards son’s song
turning, tilting,
soaking strength
from heaven’s tears
spirit blooming,
bearing seeds of hope
Dreaming?
(Love Song by Giorgio de Chirico)
Dream within dreamer within dream
Fantasy? Reality? 'Tis not what it seems
Deep beneath surface, peeling back layers
Mind playing tricks, Devil may (or not) care
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My little offering for Sunday 160 (a story in exactly 160 characters-spaces included) and for Poetics at dVerse~Poet's Pub. Today's subject is to write a piece based upon one of the selected works of Giorgio de Chirico. This is my 1st stop at the Pub. I'm hoping the big guys will let me play today.

Saturday Centus: You Are My Munchie-Boy

Mama rocks her babe gently
during their nightly ritual.
While nursing
the little duck plays
“You Are My Sunshine”.

Mama softly sings to her son:

You are my Munchie-Boy
my only Munchie-Boy
You are Mommy’s pride and joy,
Mommy loves you,
this is so true,
for you are my Munchie-Boy!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Darn that Ms. Jenny...she only gave us an additional 50 words this week, plus the prompt (above in green). I guess we have a half Centus today. She was kind enough, however, to throw us a bone with the permission to use a photo with our story.
I'm only pretending to complain. Honestly, I must truly thank dear Ms. Jenny. Her prompt brought back sweet memories of my nighttime ritual with my baby boy. I would sing to him the above song as I rocked him gently to sleep. Even when he became old enough to put himself to bed, I would still sing this for him as I tucked him in. But that was long ago. Maybe if I ask him nicely, he'll let me sing to him once more.
Flash Friday 55: The Closet
first sanctuary,
retreat from chaos
raging daily…
hiding spot
from harmful ones…
seeking,
yet always found…
eventually filled
with meaningless possessions,
meaningful to her…
until day she returned
finding her treasures,
trinkets,
thrown away, cast aside…
harboring secrets,
concealing cache…
magic crimson elixir
no longer enchanting,
replaced by memories..
flashbacks demanding
their stories be heard.
Microfiction Muse #18
Liza took Grandpa's
words of wisdom
quite literally
when he instructed:
"in order to find
the whole truth
one must always
dig a little deeper"
