Sacred Sunday: Simple Gifts

When my daughter was but a wee infant, we began a nightly ritual. Part of this ritual, right before tucking in, was to hold her, to rock her gently all the while singing to her what she would eventually call "Simple Games". It's a sweet and beautiful tune with a wonderful history. It also contains a simple, yet profound message that makes it Sacred Sunday worthy. Enjoy.

One more day of work then I'm off for 11! The hospital remains full at capacity. I am tiring quickly of donning masks and gowns but it is a necessity. I just found out that the new policy for delivering aerosolized medications to flu patients is requiring me to use protective eye gear, as well. I am worrying about what's going to happen when the regular seasonal flu season begins around December?

I want to thank you all for your concerns for my "safety" during this flu epidemic. I am certain that my line of work has afforded me the opportunity to build up much immunity. 5 more days and counting until my H1N1 vaccination will be fully protecting me!

We hope your flu shot clinics are running a little more smoothly than they are in Ontario. Waiting times are extremely long and of course there is always those who jump the line. Keep safe for this one last day and then you are home free, fingers crossed.

Wouldn't it be nice, if life were that simple? Instead of trying to keep up with everyone else we would just be thankful for what we have.

I got interested in the Shakers years ago when I fell in love with their simple, yet beautiful furniture. They were a fascinating and focused group of people.

I'm glad to hear you will have some time off while your H1N1 vac takes effect. I'm so careful about hand washing and I still managed to get a bad cold.

I love the guitar in the piece--it's beautiful. And 11 days off is certainly something to look forward to! Plenty of time for your flu shot to "activate!"

Beautiful song.

There is little wonder where Bethany's love of music must have come from!

Recently I was carrying my granddaughter out around our back yard, humming to her, trying to calm her enough to get her to sleep. I realized I was humming "Simple Gifts' but the only words I knew of it was the 'Tis a gift to be simple, Tis a gift to be free.' Thank you for this. It's a very simple but peacefully beautiful thing.
I hope you are, indeed, being cautious at work. Until a year ago, I worked as a pediatric nurse at the local Children's Hospital and everytime the season changed, either I would get sick or my family would.

I heard it has been bad in your area. My sister is just outside Charlotte and she and her family had the Swine Flu back in September!

Have a great 11 days off!
